This morning, NPSD raced our annual Turkey Trot. It’s basically a 5k in that it’s a 5k that we race. So it’s a 5k.
But no, you’re not here to ask about the workout. You don’t care that we had 3 people wearing turkey hats and gobbling at the start line. You don’t care that we had a group that warranted 4 heats. You don’t care that we had 5 people run back to run in the final few who were finishing up the 5k. You don’t care how fucking HUGE our cheer tunnel was. You don’t care that someone gave me a whole pumpkin pie, which I promptly regifted.
Let’s talk about gratitude – because it’s Thanksgiving tomorrow.
I can’t count how many people thanked Ash and me for “everything we do,” which I assure you is likely way less than you think.
But I want to take the time to remind people to thank each other. And to thank you, the tribe, for showing up. As Ashleigh and I ran in from marking the course with 1 minute to spare before the start, the MASSIVE group of NPSDers were already congregated, hugging, getting amped up.
It was a great reminder that this community doesn’t exist without you all who come twice a week to put a smile on each other’s faces… and get a little sweat going. In fact, if Ashleigh and I weren’t there, I can promise you someone would have stepped up to start the workout. Probably Tom Dorio. Or as a group, people would have broken off to start their own workouts, run together, encourage each other, true Vajoggy style.
Someone came up to me afterwards and said, “Thank you, that was SO much fun. Seriously, I couldn’t stop smiling the entire time I was running the 5k.” And that’s shit that doesn’t come from Ashleigh’s funny jokes, or my awkward bounces about Turkey Pie. That comes from the energy you bring each other.
So, thank YOU. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for your sweaty hugs. Just thank you.
I promise you that every Monday and Wednesday, Angelo, Ashleigh, and I probably get more out of this than any of you.
Sappy Euge OUT.
Love,
E
P.S., SPECIAL THANKS to Ash for taking a mean spill marking the course while I was in the woods taking a poop. While I’m a pooper, you truly are a trooper, Smashface.
