Before I ride off into the sunset that is retirement, I wanted to leave you all with one last thought.  Three years I have been leading November Project NYC.  For three years, we have cultivated a community of athletes here in New York City that has resonated with the citizens here and around the world.  For three years we have made an impact on the lives of thousands of people.  For three years it has been a roller coaster of emotions, near and far.  But for three years there is one thing that we have never done, and that is SETTLE. read more

Speechless (NYC)

Most of the time, I have a lot to say. Most of the time I talk way too much, give super detailed directions, even at times interrupt people to get in my two cents.  Today, the actions, kindness, and generosity of this amazing group of people left me speechless.

10 days ago, I had my bike stolen. “Where did you leave your bike?” I remember looking outside and saying, “Right there across the..” It hit me, it was gone.  Lock cut, bike gone, zero evidence left for anyone to see.  Now, New York City has some notorious bike thieves.  Kryptonite named one of their locks New York City, and even has an insurance policy attached to it.  Yes, I own one of these locks but of course I was not using it in this instance.  But it was gone.  I was speechless when it happened.  Yea, bikes get stolen all the time, but nah that would never happen to me. The funny thing was I was not even phased at the time.  I didn’t know what to think and definitely not what to say.  It didn’t really hit me, but then I thought: I’m not hurt, I’m not injured, it’s only stuff. read more

Comfort Zone by Jenn (NYC)

Carrying the Positivity Award around with me the past 2 weeks has given me a lot of opportunities to explain what NP is to friends and strangers (#notacult) and reassure them that it’s not a weapon (my coworkers have all been terrified). But it’s also given me a lot of time to reflect on what this simple piece of wood, that means nothing to most people, means to me. read more

Phone A Friend (NYC)

This morning started as another normal NYC morning.  Coach had the workout planned every step of the way. While he was finishing up the last touches we called the newbies in to introduce themselves to the 5:28 group.  In steps in Ivonne, and without missing a beat takes over and just starts initiating herself.  SHE GETS IT.  And that is something we deal with, is that some people just don’t “get us.” Whether it is someone who shows up for the first time, or some of our neighbors who working out in the park next to us, or the commuters on their bikes next to the river. read more

MONDAY (NYC)

Workout quality is one of the ideals we hold high in NYC. While others worry about numbers, and having the most the most picturesque workout spots, we make sure that our workouts are FIERCER than anyone’s while having the most fun….. and the most photos of any tribe.  Back in June 2014, we started our #SummerFridays with 4 weeks of some of the hardest, bloodiest (our bad), fucking badass workouts that have happened this side of the Mississippi. read more

Blog by Jeanie (NYC)

And here is her first blog post….. Take it away Jeanie:

As I was running through the darks streets of Brooklyn this morning, I started to reflect on how I first became a runner. When I was in school, I was pretty lost trying to figure out which sport was right for me. I tried out for many of them, and sadly never got picked. I sat the bench at lots of basketball games. I tried cheerleading, but I wasn’t coordinated or flexible. I could run up and down the soccer field for days, but my best skill was kicking the ball off the field. So I decided maybe I should try cross-country or track and field.  I got my first taste of running at the ripe age of 13, with Coach Buckner at Burner Junior Middle School. He had years of running knowledge and he made it fun. He put a huge emphasis on the fact that everyone made the team. No one got cut. 73791_431451222643_1318860_n read more

I am Vader, I am ME.

I am Vaibhav Hariani, better known as Vader and I am 11 years old. I go to November Project almost every week. On the average day, I am the only middle schooler at November project, and that is okay.

My first day at November Project was not a workout. My dad had been going to November project for a few weeks at the time, and he had been asking me to join him at a workout. One day we were at Macy’s, searching for a pair of boots for me and my dad. There, he tells me that some people from November Project would be playing in the snow later. So I agreed to go with him. read more
