Ask why

Something came up front and center again over the past week or so… lemme explain.

Two years ago, Nadim and I co-created something special. After building it out for almost two years, we were ready to share it in a bigger way. We did- in Fall 2022. It’s called The Other Box.

It’s an experience. A way for all of us to engage in dialogue and talk about some pretty complex, non-straightforward stuff…. equity, diversity, and inclusion. And, in normal Nadim and Lazina style, we chose to open up time and space for a complex conversation by using movement as the vehicle to start this dialogue. I mean, why not sweat and THEN talk about big stuff right? read more

That “it” factor

In my last role (leading the incredible ThresholdImpact VMS program- a mentorship program for entrepreneurs), my team and I looked for a special “it” factor in everyone we accepted into the program. It wasn’t enough that you were an entrepreneur looking for help or a business leader wanting to help. We looked for something much deeper. We called it the VMS-DNA. I think this is pretty self explanatory. We were looking for that “it” factor that we knew was/is rooted in everyone who is part of that community. Once we identified this term, we knew immediately it is what attracted them to the program. And, more importantly to that community of innovators and leaders. read more

Limitless

Today is Global Running Day!

I want to take a few moments to talk about limits. More specifically, being limitless.

We are in the month of my 9th NPversary (June 2014 is when I first started showing up… I don’t know the exact day) and I’ve been reflecting on all the amazing things I now do that I NEVER would have dreamt I’d be doing. read more

Right in the face

This morning was hilarious.

Glad that The Sparks festival is on and we get to play…. er workout on those red swings today. It wasn’t easy doing core work on that large swing even if Rob made it look easy.

What was even funnier was when the fountains turned on at 6:11. It would have been gold if one of us was lying right on the fountain head, doing a situp, when that came on. Too bad THAT didn’t happen. read more

Werk Werk Werk Werk Werk

Your fitness level does not matter.

Your attitude and grit that matter most.

Werking your a$$ off is what counts and that’s just you against you my friend…. with a hundred of your 6am friends (you can be friends at other times of the day too if you’d like).

I’ve always found it more encouraging to have #stairsforbreakfast when I have people to chase. I work harder. I smile more. And there’s definitely more hugs and high fives with the NP crew all around me…. it’s not that fun hugging yourself is it?! read more

Like the good ol’ days

Returning to Commonwealth always reminds me of my NP origin story….. that was my first experience in June 2014 (shitballs, that’s a long time!!)

Over the last few years though, something new has happened from those good ol’ days at Commonwealth.

The smoke.

Who was there that apocalyse day in Summer 2019? The sky was dark for a long time. And then it was orange. Nuts. read more

The beginning…

The big 1-0 is coming up friends!

It’s getting exciting. What a journey it has been in the wee hours- all over the City of Champions.

I’ve had such incredible experiences and memories from my almost 9 years being part of the NP Canada community. You?

When I think about my beginning, I always think about our legacy co-leaders- Andrew, Jen, and Nadim. read more

The sun is back!

That morning sun. There’s nothing like it.

There was a renewed energy this morning! Lots of bright colours (including Rob and Lazina in matchy yellow… yes, we coordinated. No we didn’t. Yes we did.). Cynthia whizzing down the hill beside us. Puppies! New faces and old faces. A lively high five tunnel. Running sunnies! read more

The first digit in your age starts with a 1

We did the vortex workout today. I love this one.

Everyone runs in a circle until they hear a statement that applies to them. They come to the middle and do whatever exercises Rob and I holler out! Then, they rejoin the circle. That’s the jist (+ a burnout, says all of you who were there this morning). read more

Setbacks

I’ve had some minor health setbacks since the Fall- weeks of a cold/flu, flareups with my RA, another cold, a minor hip thing. I also started a new job which, I bet some of you can relate to, is all consuming for the first while.

These aren’t major health things and a new job is a fun, exciting thing but, together, they have taken me off my fitness path. My weekly routine has changed a bit and well, I don’t like that I haven’t been able to push myself. read more
