Today, more specifically the date February 5th, is a day that I’m not always able to tackle. 21 years ago today, I woke up to my mom letting me know that my best friend was gone. Mark was the older brother I wished I had. After my mom and my nan, Mark was probably my biggest supporter. He’d always wait for me to catch up while we rollerbladed or rode bikes, he would let me have a turn while we played video games for hours, and he’d ask me what I wanted to watch or listen to. He was awesome and I miss him.
Shake rattle and roll

Outside of baseball and Barry White Jr’s classroom, handshakes have felt a bit too cold and rigid. Today we made the handshake cool again. Well, actually, you made the handshake cool again. I’m not sure if I’ve seen this crew crush hills faster than you all did today. It felt like nothing would get in the way of you adding a new move to your buddy handshake. The fun choreography is something that I hope you will remember and bust out as a greeting for your new friend the next time you see them at a workout.

End of the Endless Summer
We may only have a few weeks of summer left, but let’s be real, in LA summer is practically year round. As we head toward darker mornings, no 5:30 pictures, and less mosquitos, we have an opportunity to create even more magic on Wednesday and Friday mornings. While the rest of LA breaks out their Uggs for the sub 70º temperatures, starts ordering hot PSLs, and starts making excuses for why they hit snooze for a 5th time, we’ll still be crushing our morning workouts and starting the day with positive vibes.

First, I want to thank everyone that has participated in our first NP survey. Your feedback is awesome and critical for helping us grow our community. If you haven’t had a chance yet to fill out the survey, please do so here! We want to hear from everyone so please take a few minutes and help give back to this awesome movement.
Sure!
Three days after my birthday, Jonathan and I attempted a 50k in Julian, CA. The race started around 4500ft and would climb to just over 6000ft elevation. It was somewhere over 100º when I was low on water and food. Once I started getting light headed I knew I was in a rough spot. At mile 20 I turned around and headed back for the aid station that I passed 2 miles prior. On my way back I saw Jonathan and told him I was out. Not long after, I got a text from him saying he was dropping out as well. We commiserated over mediocre food and joked about how I was about to head to the desert for a race that would be even hotter.

The theme is Dirty Dancing and you will need to bring a watermelon to the workout. I was at Ralph’s last night and they had personal size melons 4 for $5, or big ass melons for .33¢/lb.

LAX turns 5
This morning we celebrated November Project Los Angeles turning 5 years old! 5 years of goofy free fitness that has built a beautiful community.

A lot of people dread the idea of going back to school, but I was stoked for this morning’s workout. Here is an early “You’re Welcome!” for the sore ass tomorrow for those of you that had to skip a high school lap, congratulations to all that predicted a perfect March Madness bracket, and I’m sorry for forgetting to sign all of those permission slips!
