Just Another Manic Monday

For some reason, when I set out to write this blog this song popped in my head. Real classic if you ask me. A manic Monday. The Bangles (? ok, had no idea that’s who that was…), set out to tell you how shitty her Monday is, and how she–well. Let’s investigate…

“It’s just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
‘Cause that’s my fun day
My I don’t have to run day
It’s just another manic Monday” read more

Know Your Tribe — George Woodward

Before this must-read Know Your Tribe blog: #verbal now for the most interesting MONDAY you’ve seen in a while.  Map location here…or just meet at 6:29am underneath section 19 in good old H Stadium.  (H parking rules still apply so RUN your ass there!)

George Woodward is one of the older members of the tribe, but don’t let this old man fool you. He’s somehow got wiser AND faster. It’s like he’s Benjamin Buttoning race speed. Dude is like a hundred years old, but still throws down sub-30 minute stadiums all the time (with his eyes on sub-25) and makes us young clowns look like chump change. If you’ve ever been passed by George, you know that even though he’s competitive, he brings the NP spirit in spades to every workout — cheering people on, and chucking positivity around like it’s candy on Halloween. One thing you probably don’t know is that after EVERY. SINGLE. WORKOUT. George comes up to each of us three and thanks us for the workout, and tells us how grateful he is. He’s a class act all the way, and if you don’t know him yet, now’s the time… read more

Raceman: The Real Deal

There is one workout that repeatedly ruins me.

Every.

Single.

Time.

Each time it rolls around I’ll be like, “Yeah, I got this! I love raceman!” and then after the second 5-minute segment, I’m on the verge of puking, and I’m wondering why I ever started coming to this #free_fitness movement in the first place–let alone leading it. Mid way through the third segment, I have to pull up at least at some point, and stare into space contemplating my existence. And then comes the burnout. If you weren’t totally fried by the time we line you up for those last 3 races, there’s something wrong with you. Maybe you’re a robot, maybe you’re Scott Gilroy, maybe you’re #robot_gilroy–I don’t care who you are, by the time those last 3 races roll around, you are standing on wobbly ground, doin the #shakey_leg without even meaning to. You hope the group photo will be called to Section #<whatever section you’re in>, and you wonder if your boss will notice if you #justdontshowup today for work. read more

Joev Dubach – KYT

If you don’t know him, you haven’t been paying attention. Today’s blog comes to you from someone who’s been around the block for awhile. He never misses an opportunity to dress up, never misses an opportunity to #getWeird, and is sometimes so dedicated to what we’re throwin’ down that he breaks BOTH his tibia and fibia just to jump in on the action… He’s all things NP.  This morning he even set out walking around the block at 4:40am (with metal rod in his leg and without crutches!) in order to walk from home in Somerville to the Destination Deck in Back Bay.  It only took him an hour and a half!  As we said, he’s all things NP. Name: Joev Dubach Alias/Nickname: Pre (thanks, Evan Dana) Date of First Workout: February 5, 2014 Why’d you Just Show Up? Benai and Jeremy had mentioned November Project at my Tuesday night run club, the Kier Byrnes Freedom Runners. The stairs sounded impossibly high, and the people sounded crazy. Then one night, when I got home from work too late to go to KBFR, I decided to just go to bed early and check out November Project in the morning. The fact that it was going to snow all night was a bonus – it made me feel like I’d be a badass just for getting to the workout, and it helped me get to sleep quickly. It was many months before I got as much sleep the night before an NP workout. Bostonian or Transplant? Long time Bostonian, original Seattleite. Tribes Visited: Boston, Worcester, Seattle, Denver. Tribe Crush: Emily Saul. Thunder, lightning, and the blogs keep coming. Favorite NP Day of the Week: Wednesday. Stairs are so different from anything else, and you have lots of room to improve. Favorite Recurring Workout: There and Back Again stairs. I like when people with vastly different paces cross paths at the end of the workout. Least Favorite Recurring Workout: Bear crawl. I can’t breathe, I slow down, I still can’t breathe, I slow down more, etc. …and then the workout is over. Favorite NP Workout EVER: The Monday easter egg deck at BU: https://www.facebook.com/NovProject/videos/540153896093046/ Anyone inspire you at NP that you haven’t told yet (now’s the time…don’t make it weird)? Billy Hafferty. Weird, fast, and a good writer. He should show up more often. #WheresBilly Why do you keep showing up? I want to keep moving for the rest of my life, and I know it’d be easy to fall off the wagon if it was boring. NP is the most entertaining form of exercise I’ve found. What do you do for a living? I’m a computer programmer. When you were a child, what did you “want to do when you grow up?” I wanted to be a veterinarian, because I liked cats. What is your superpower? Time travel. What’s a question that we didn’t ask that we should’ve? Snooze or no snooze? No snooze! Radio alarm across the room to wake me up, then buzzer a few minutes later to get me up. ANNOUNCEMENTS!

    I’m Glad You’re Here.

We start every November Project workout the same way. Yeah yeah, there’s the
    > “Good Morning” Good Morning.
    > “Y’all good?!” Fuck yeah.
that we all know and love, but the more important piece comes next…
“Turn and greet the people around you, give out some bear hugs, tell those people…” I’m glad you’re here. read more

    Know Your Tribe — JD

Today’s #KYT comes to us from someone who’s been coming forever, but only comes “sometimes,” and “when it’s not too yucky out,” and “her fitbit is charged.” She’s most famous for her twitter handle (@jennadeutsh), and her love affair with the one and only VDB. If you know Jenna, you know her hard-work and serious attitude toward training are only triumphed by her sass and sarcasm. But she doesn’t just annoy us here in Boston, she #traverbals more than anyone else around — making sure that Nick Rod, Laura Green, and BG all remember her as “the girl that messed up our workout that one time.” If you don’t know her, now’s your chance. Read below and send her a tweet . Tell her how much you like Garmins and running around in the wet snow. Tell her you think her boyfriend is cute. Whatever you do, read a lil’ bit about the one and only, JD. read more

If you missed it, you missed out.

There will be no discussion about todays workout. Why? Because #therevolutionwillnotbetelevised #whathappensunderthebridgestaysunderthebridge.

For everyone that wasn’t there, all you need to know is that everyone was there except for you, and it was amazing. For all of you who were there, you know what I’m talkin about. Things like all-out-circuits, dog-poop-squats, graffitti, asking security guards for permission for a “few” runners to come into their space and do a “few” “small” exercises, #randodie–crap. I’ve already said too much… read more
