freshest of the fresh (Ottawa)

It feels like we’ve seen a lot of each other recently. If you’ve been out of town for the last week here in Ottawa here’s a quick synopsis of what’s gone down.

To start last Wednesday, we raced, crushed or attempted to crush some PR’s. We passed off the Positivity Award to a woman within our city who inspires and leads by example for other families, friends and some moms out there too. The Sparkettes are a force to be reckoned with. On Friday some of you met us on the hill. It really wasn’t that big of an occasion. I mean two people who consistently show up decided to commit the rest of their lives to one another. There currently is no better love story than that of Lauren and Seumas except maybe my own parents but then again I did not bear witness to it, so it’s hard to say. These two let us share in a part of their magical, making your skin have goose bumps because of all the love filled day. Even more, Friday morning was another time for us to gather and celebrate with people that we were familiar and unfamiliar with. Members of November Project Baltimore and Edmonton graced us with their presence. read more

Today we shine bright (Ottawa)

This morning was a PR day, race day, be your best you have today and boy did this community shine. Oh so bright. PR day is a day you may wake up with a few more butterflies floating around, anticipating the challenge the stairs brings, and the added challenge that you know what you are capable of, and want to be just that little bit better today. read more

30 exercises

30 exercises. You had 30 chances to complete 30 different, core-stabilizing, posterior chain building, calf defining and lung burning movements all while smiling. I mean you only really do this because it’s fun right?

here are some of what we think are our top 10 reasons why you keep showing up: read more

In the tulips

When a holiday Monday rolls around you can expect a couple things. The first might be the noticeably extra day that you may have to enjoy all your favourite things like a longer coffee chat or a midday sweat. Secondly, you may find yourself tackling more “projects” over the 3 day weekend, these so called “projects” can range from cleaning out your sock drawer to installing a compostable toilet. Finally, you can expect that there will be a workout to kick off your extra day for whatever purpose suits you. read more

Bridge Month (Ottawa)

What a month of January it’s BEEN! Reported yesterday, this is the most snow that has ever fallen in Ottawa! This just enhanced the experience of making the most of January and the start of 2019, almost (but not quite) as much as the people who came out.

We kicked off 2019 with the spider bounce and howling winds and beauty views of the Alexandra Bridge. Next up was lunging our way across the tight quarters of Pretoria bridge, where we met a few new buddies through some strength movements, sprinkled with snow, removing clothing layers easily and disco lights beaming in the background. Week 3, we experienced the most magnificent skating morning, with an under-the-bridge-bridge workout at Patterson Creek. Our gentle bounce on skates echoed under the bridge singing to “The Good ol’ hockey days”. Week 4 we declared the first ever SNOW DAY (Badges are being safely delivered to their soon-to-be owners to show those off across the city) at the Adawe Bridge. We shared a stunning snowfall, and when snow wasn’t flying in our faces, we got to admire the Rideau River rushing underneath us. It was a challenging team workout that pushed our limits as much as we wanted them to. Finally, Bridge month was topped off with a classic… one of the most beautiful views in Ottawa over the Rideau Canal – the Corktown Footbridge (AKA Lovelock bridge). This pushed us above and below the bridge, across the canal, and teams of 3. This workout allowed each individual to be challenged, potentially in an area of weakness, no matter who was setting the pace. read more

Consistency (Ottawa)

Consistency- a principle that dictates success in anything you do. How one defines success is variable. Success with your health, with your relationships, with your personal goals, family goals, or professional goals.

This variability is true of the reasons people #justshowup to November Project as well. Everyone has a reason, maybe multiple… there has to be a big enough reason to wake up in darkness, get dressed in the dark out of your warm bed, and head out into your car that will barely start to make it for the 6:29am bounce.

An Egg, some spokes, huckle-buckle and a burnout

So here’s what you missed this morning in case the -17 with no windchill scared you, your family tied you down or the turkey got the better of you last night. We bounced to holiday themes like gingerbread cookies, skating, skiing, tinsel and icing. Spokes, spokes and let’s make some spokes! Call out a number and try and find the egg in the snow. Don’t pay attention to the squash, apple or clementines what you really need to find is the egg. After racing around the spokes you crawled your way through your teammates legs to be the first to dive towards the egg. Have you heard about huckle-buckle? read more

Meet the Sparkettes (Guest blog- Ottawa)

Anne shows up with an incredible energy. She is an example for the tribe, as well as her 3 awesome daughters. We are very grateful to have her as part of this community. She also first showed up on a snowy morning in the winter. That is badass. For those friends who are going to “wait until it’s warmer”, here’s a lady who didn’t come up with excuses. She came up with reasons to make it happen. Sometimes people hesitate when they tell us they haven’t been out in a while, or say sorry when they miss a workout…. what we tell people is that we are happy every time they show up, no matter how frequent or infrequent. They are always welcomed with open arms. The Sparkettes bring an energy every time they show up and we love having all of them with us.  read more

When cities collide – Guest blog by Work it YOW [MTL]

WISCONSIN NOTES:

  • The first edition of the Mtl vs Ott Fit Off was a banging success. Duh.
  • Guest blog by the lovely folk of Work it YOW.
  • Be there Wednesday.

Below are the beautiful sentiments of Work it YOW (Ottawa’s killer pledge tribe) on the afternoon of sweaty loving and good times that was shared.

“There has been so much excitement building up to this weekend’s fit off. What an awesome way to spend a Sunday meeting friends cross-provinces. We finally got those people out who aren’t tough enough for 6:29am start time. Luckily for them, they got to experience what it’s like to be #weatherproof– after three days of sunny and hot weather, the November Project Gods had to put us in our place and remember what we’re all about. So thank you for that. Those

newbies got to experience what it’s like to be kinda badass. And was this group ever badass. I think there was more time spent on the ground with wet bums. on hands racing fearlessly for the retrieval of tennis balls during hungry hippos. Partner baseball diamond sprints rounding the bases got us sweating. Huckle buckle created tight relationships and hips-in opportunities or connecting less than comfortable body parts together with strangers. read more
