Boyz-(and Girlz)-n-the-Hood(s) (IND)

The boys in the hood may always be hard, but so are the burpees and lunges, maybe harder (at least it feels that way at 6am).DSC_0196

Crew-counting-Colleen was absent today due to “work” in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, but 6:15 was the clear winner numbers-wise. But moving right along into February today means that spring is just around the corner, and spring = recruiting season at NP. There’s still hope, 5:28; keep the faith! read more

The Return Part 2: The Sequel (DCA)

Wednesdays are special at #NP_DC. Sure, Meridian (and Capitol Hill) Mondays give us a chance to nom on some #hillsforbreakfast, and Fridays let us explore the nooks and crannies of our incredible city, but Wednesdays, Wednesdays are something else. Wednesday we get to go back to where it all began, two dudes at Lincoln- which became 5 people, which became 25, which became 500. We get to stand in awe of the most beautiful sunrises, illuminating our nation’s capital. We get to look Abe in the eyes as we charge up the stairs, gasping for air, trying to get one more set in. We are lucky for Wednesdays- and for Lincoln. read more

The Washing Machine (IND)

DSC_0852

This one was fresh. . . fresh to def, fresh linen status, in fact. Shaw hit us up with an original workout coined “The Washing Machine,” and she’s a beaut. We were all newbies for the workout, and we had one oldie we always miss dearly in Macko and one real-life newbie in Brian. Thanks for #justshowup-ing! Weather was decent for January, groups were solid, and Patrick-style hugs were fantastic! read more

New Year, New Adventures (DCA)

Let me start by saying that this is not only a loss for the November Project DC Tribe, this is a loss for Washington, D.C. as a whole. That is the power of Kim and Jim. They take the values we talk about at workouts — spreading positivity to all, being inclusive, trying to bring more kindness to our community — and they apply them in the real world. It’s fantastic and it has given us all a standard to live up to and to replicate. read more

20. 17. Let’s Do It! (IND)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

No better way to kick things off than by showing that you are absolutely WEATHERPROOF. The temp was low (~20 F), but the real killer factor was the wind, which was just wicked. No worries though; a bunch of badasses #justshowup at these Indianapolis workouts, so let the wind blow, let the storm rage on . . . the cold never bothered us anyway. read more

Urban Backpacking (IND)

dsc_0004-1

As is traditional ’round these parts, we took part in the annual December 21st urban backpacking festival. And I think, as is traditional, the best way to describe what took place is as follows:

‘Twas the morning of the 21st, when all through the city
About 50-odd creatures were stirring as they prepped to get fit-y;
Their backpacks were donned on their backs, by their hair,
And they hoped they’d soon get to take those off of there; read more

Singles Club (IND)

Welcome to the club all you diehards! The single digits club was bumpin’ today in Indy with awesome showings at both workouts! Indy’s first good snow of the season brought with it our first deep freeze. But that didn’t stop the masses from #justshowup – ing.

7 degrees (that’s -14 in whatever wacky temperature measuring method you Canadians use up there; I mean, what kind of sense does it make having 0 mark freezing?!?! 32: much more logical) was the consensus on a couple phone apps, but we’ll go with 3 degrees (-16 Can-a-dia) because Howard Monroe says so; he’s got that direct weatherman connection. Either way, that’s one WinterWeatherProofSingleDigit Tag earned for everyone at the workouts today! read more

Far From Lumbering-Jacks (IND)

Well, the workout was tough this morning, not because of the burpees, not because of the wall-sits, not because of the heft of the flannel, not even because of the cold. It was tough because so many of us were dressed up like lumberjacks that the ESPN cameras and onlooking diehard fans and folks needing trees chopped down just kept getting in the way. We did our best to alleviate that problem, citing Mr. David Chappelle: “Just because I’m dressed this way does not make me a [lumberjack].” Appropriate person/stand-up act to cite here? You be the judge . . . but the answer is definitely no; I’m not even going to hyperlink the feed to that clip, though if you were to look it up, the word lumberjack may or may not have replaced the words “police officer” . . . maybe, maybe not; I won’t say. Aaaaanyway, the important stuff is below. read more

Drumstick Dashers, Puddle Splashers (IND)

003

-JoeyMac rockin’ to the rhythm of the rain like a true Judd-

“Well the weather outside was frightful, but the fire J-Keys lit under everyone’s asses was so” . . . well, that was frightful too, but it sure as hell got us moving (looking at you Ja’Shawn . . . nice work today)! Wrong holiday, right idea. Thanksgiving too often gets overlooked in stores and themes, so it’s comforting to know that Shaw can always dish out a soothing festive song like “The Gobble”, which inspired the below “piece” . . . . read more

The Results Are In . . . (IND)

The results are in . . . fun was had by all at NP here in Indy this morning (and at a hell of a good price I might add)!

We had plenty of groggy faces still recovering from contentious races, but we made due with heightened energy, hugs upon hugs, and of course free as can be fitness!  Despite the economy, despite the rhetoric, despite the political mortal combat, NP always stands firm based on a solid, unshakable platform of free fitness and a sense of community for the masses!  I think that’s a platform nearly everyone can stand on. read more
