FUNKY VIBES! (DEN)

DENVER NOTES:

  • PR Day giveth, and PR Day taketh away – the weather was moody, like Aretha (RIP) without a Snickers moody.  I feel you, girl.
  • In related news, I’m positive no one PR’ed except our new traverballing friend from DC.
  • In what might’ve been the most positive exchange of the Positivity Award (Tivy) ever, Angela and Virva couldn’t stop complementing each other in a symphony of “My dear”, “Baby”, “Honey”, and “Love”.  If you haven’t been complemented by either of them, you probably need a Snickers.
  • Julia would’ve had her baby yesterday if we did a full round of Sally Squats, or Squat Squat Poo, or really anything at all involving more than 5 squats.  Is she grateful?  Is she late-term-been-pregnant-forever-emotional about it?  Hard to say.
  • According to Laura Green, per Wisconsin Notes podcast (shameless plug), having a baby is just like taking the biggest poop of your life.
    • A 7-10 pound poo is terrifying to me.
    • Effective squatting may be helpful in some birthing scenarios.  Please consult your physician.

I started this blog this morning, after Hayes was awake, which was a rookie #dadmistake, and why it’s taken so long to post.  Hayes has picked today to skip crawling almost entirely to teach himself how to pull to standing without help – so I’m busy.

It also turns out that I’m much better, or at least more comfortable, speaking off the cuff with a general idea.  Give me a computer and leave me with my thoughts, and I freeze.  Of note: Hayes has not yet grasped the magic of sitting quietly alone with one’s thoughts, which has also prolonged this process.  Let’s just continue to blame Hayes for most of this, shall we? read more

Post-Millenial Musings (DEN)

Denver Notes:

  • Millenium Bridge is, in fact, a series of bridges.  We just happen to workout on the busiest one.
  • Denver pedestrian recruiting tactics are confident, but only mildly effective, particularly during commuter times.
  • People commuting via this Millenium Bridge do not smile.  We can only assume this is because they either couldn’t poop this morning, didn’t workout with us, or both.
  • We ran some bridges, climbed some stairs, did approximately 17,000 combined repetitions of 6 different exercises, shook some hands, kissed some babies, and met the neighbors.
  • It was Take Your Kid to November Project Day.

Today’s guest blog is brought to you by someone who didn’t intend for this to be a blog, at least initially.  She also didn’t intend to keep showing up to November Project, at least initially.  Sydney Turner is Exhibit A of what it means to get out of your comfort zone and #justshowup.  Without further ado, I give you our favorite high schooler.  Take it away, Syd! read more

Watch Your Language! (DEN)

DENVER NOTES (Wed+Fri):

  • LeeAnn from the Chicago tribe won our first round of recruiting for the summer.  I don’t know what to say here.  I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed.
  • Erin & I got whipped cream pies to the face by LeeAnn’s 7th proxy, Troy, and smelled milk residue in our nostrils for the next 24 hours.
  • I strongly recommend recruiting or dating smelling like milk residue.
  • Yearbook pics and dogbone workouts happened.  Courie and Justin walked the entire thing because, well, they’re 93 years old.  November Project really is for everyone.
  • Friday brought Lucky Charms, dogs, Denver promo videos, tiny NP’ers, and a hole heapin’ helping of stairs!
  • Morgan’s suggestion of ending the workout with shavasana was the happiest I’ve ever seen any of you.
  • Isabel’s suggestion of Spice Girls for workout jams was swiftly dismissed, maybe too swiftly.

530 in a league of their own

    DENVER NOTES:

  • 10 minutes into the 530 workout, Kipp comes up to me, sweat rolling off his brow, to say “Holy shit!  This is fucking hard!  Shit!”  Day.  Made.
  • Nobody died from rolling in the wet grass on Ready Go’s.  Day made, twice.
  • If you haven’t seen Sam Caravello’s face while sprinting after getting up from aforementioned wet grass, do yourself a favor and keep an eye out.  Gold.
  • Baseball was played with burpees, partner plank hops, hoistees, and bear crawls, oh my!  Followed by juiced dizzy bats and burnouts!  What a spicy little morning we had!
  • If you have to fart, but just can’t seem to manage, Alphabet leg swings, a la Rishabh, are a great way to fix that little problem.

    Changes and Cheeseburgers (DEN)

    Denver notes:

  • Great news, everyone!  Matthew has decided not to move to San Francisco.  His rocking chair will be firmly encamped in Denver for the foreseeable future.
  • Casino Royale workout never disappoints.  We’ve discovered the great equalizer for Starbuck’s blinding speed – short distance sprints.  When you have a 90-inch inseam, turnover is hard.
  • When you put tiny paper hats on adult heads, your day is always on its way up.  Put that one in your back pocket for future reference.  This also applies to cheeseburger hats.  And hats that say “It’s my FUCKING birthday!”
  • Improve your day.  Put on a hat.
  • Pushups, sit-ups, sprints, burpees, wall sits…yada, yada yada.  Matthew had a fucking cheeseburger on his head this morning.  Very normal.

    Positively Pandemic (DEN)

    530 comedy crew

    Denver Notes:

  • KISS – 2 laps on the stairs while your partner defies death while box jumping and dipping.
  • Kipp has a thing for little people. All evidence is posted publicly on Venmo.
  • Hats with furry balls are so in right now.
  • Ice on Troy’s beard is something dreams are made of.
  • I owe Gabby a new pair of pants after nearly trampling her to death.  In semi-related news, I’ve become exceptional at changing diapers.
  • Sara Mams gave the warmest, fuzziest speech about our NP family as she handed off the Positivity Award to Tylyn.
