Guest Blog: Lions and Tigers and HungryBears, OH MY!

We think it’s about time you meet this gal, if you haven’t already.

She’s rad, hardcore, weird, and has an appetite of, well you guessed it, a bear.

She’s been around since the days of pledging …

Hi! I’m Miranda, but you can call me HungryBear.

My reasons for coming to NP are more emotional and mental than physical. Don’t get me wrong — I love the workouts and I’ve met amazing people who inspire the fuck out of me and have caused me to level up from marathons to 50ks. And I’m somehow now registered for the Squamish 50/50 in 2018 (I’m looking at you, Kat Feeney). read more

The Girl With The Artichoke Tattoo

The lotus flower can have quite the journey.

This is the story of The Green Lotus.

In depths of a dark and murky swamp, at the bottom in an unfavourable environment, a seed has planted itself in the soil. It begins to grow, unknowing of the journey it is about to embark on, it sprouts hopeful. The seedling continues to grow, innately knowing that up is the only way, and it pushes. read more

Everything is AWESOME

SeaWheeze Weekend aka Summit 5.1.5, you never fail to disappoint. We had at least 250+ November Project tribes-people representing their grassroots gear all around our beautiful city, and it was AWESOME! Our friday morning pop-up was bigger and better than ever! BG showed up reppin’ a Canucks jersey, and that was AWESOME! We had newbies out for their first NP workout; new friendships made; old ones rekindled. The Crate Escape took us on a walking tour of historic Gastown as trivia points were made and stories of “Your Game Changing Moment” were shared. And that was AWESOME! Saturday was RACE DAY – the energy was fantastic and pure and again so much NP representation, it was so great to see on the course and at the best aid station. The social event before the Sunset Fest and Goldie’s yoga, brought about 60 people together which was great to really have time to sit and talk and get to know others from different tribes. All in all, the weekend was AWESOME! read more

Why am I awake

It is summer, I am on vacation, in my most favourite place. I usually wake up whenever I want, walk downstairs and pour a dollop (ok a generous dollop) of Bailies Irish Cream into a coffee cup and go and sit and look at the water for a half hour before my 17 babies wake up.

Pure Fucking Bliss.

But, and there is always a but, I found myself waking up at 4:56 with my pre programmed Wednesday morning alarm to haul myself downstairs, grab my coffee in a travel mug (no Bailies) and heading for the door. read more

Guest Blog: The Athlete and The Couch Potato

Our guest blogger this week has a very interesting story to tell. He’s usually the first guy to show up Wednesday morning. If you’ve ever met him, he’s kind of quiet, a little shy, great smile, but once you get him talking… There’s some great stuff to be heard. At workouts, he’s that guy randomly spouting out facts or trivia; singing theme songs of cartoons whilst doing the exercises. He waited to the last minute to go to Boston, but we’re so happy he got to experience all that that weekend had to offer. read more

Guest Blog: Smiling is Our Favourite

Did you know that on the McDonald’s menu they have SMILES for FREE? Well, at least they used to. Such a funny concept and yet, so simple. A smile can change things. A smile can improve a stranger’s day. A smile can change the way your face looks. A smile can be your best accessory. A smile can get you through a tough time, whether it’s a stressful time or a workout. It’s science. If you don’t believe us, maybe our guest blogger can convince you. read more

Guest Blog: The Power Within

Have you ever been to Vancouver? Do you know what magic we have within this city and outside of it?  For those who have visited or moved here, they love it. Sure it rains, but that’s part of living in a coastal rainforest. Have you seen the mountains? They’re pretty fun to play on. The beaches? We could go on, but we don’t want to brag too much. read more

Guest Blog: Rugby to “Runner”

We (Richard and I) decided to showcase the handful of our tribe people who participated in the most anticipated event of November Project – Summit 5.0 – to get their take on the event, the happenings, to ups, the downs, the lefts, the rights, and to create to best FOMO possible that you all would want to go next year… Bu really, you should go next year. IT’S. SO. AWESOME. read more

It Takes a Village

Last week was bittersweet.

Last week we saw 37 cities, and even pledging cities, come together on our favourite day of the week to pay tribute to Ben O’Meara who lived and breathed NP. The hardest of all the core members. The dual citizen of NP Boston and Worcester (aka WOO). The man in the bubble who’s red mohawk would pop up on your Instagram feed and like all your November Project posts. He supported EVERYONE. Emily Saul of Boston wrote an amazing blog about him and what we are all doing here, and she hit the nail on the head… We are more than fitness, we are family. read more

Is It Mud or Chocolate?

WEEK #9 of #DADDYRICHTAKEOVER was a special one. Not only was it Easter/Bunny themed, but it was lead by two previous guest leaders. Taking a page from our Sister City’s playbook, Rich and I decided “why the hell not???”, let’s see what they come up with. And OH. MY. GAWD. Mike and Verner put together one eggscellent workout with Bunny Burpees, Bunny Hops, Bunny Break Dancing, etc. They took us to a part of the park we had never used before… It was muddy as can be and yet, no one complained. They embraced it. One comment was “I’ve never been this dirty at a workout” – traverbal from NPDC. Welcome to Vancouver – this is what happens when it doesn’t stop raining. The guys literally hand fed people Mini Eggs which in turn induced some chocolate flavoured burps. Not burpees, BURPS. Better out than in, am I right!? Verner caused quite the stir in his wife’s pink onesie – not only hilarious, but it also seemed as though he was smuggling some eggs of his own… “I wish the inseam was longer on this onesie” …. “So do I”. We capped off the workout with a Sebastian Challenge (7 minutes of Burpees – chest to the ground, feet off the ground) with Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Kelowna and Victoria. A sash will be made for the individual winner (a Calagarian with 134) … but didn’t we all win? read more
