You are always welcome.

She showed the world what a girl push-up was. She was the first lady boss of NP_LAX. Her name is Tara Wall, and she is the voice behind today’s guest blog. Take it away T!   ‘You Are Always Welcome’

I’ve heard one too many times recently about people feeling awkward or weird about showing up to November Project if they haven’t been for a while. I’m certain there’s another group of individuals who have never showed up for this very same reason. They’re afraid of being an outsider, an ~occasionaler,~ not a regular. I, myself, have been through phases of time where I was unable or unwilling to show up, and I know what it feels like to get questioned from my tribespeople as to where I’ve been. I know they don’t mean any harm when they ask, but I understand feeling like you’re letting everybody down by not being there every week. The whole idea of this movement is about ‘just showing up’ – no matter what. The no excuses rule makes you feel like you’re not worthy if you actually have a valid excuse. And trust me when I say there are valid ones (and I don’t care if anybody thinks I’m full of crap or lame by saying this). We’re all only human and we are busy. We have important things we need to do, races we need to alter our workouts for, jobs we need to get enough sleep for, injuries we need to adjust for. Sometimes, an NP workout just doesn’t fit into the routine. But that doesn’t, for one moment, mean that you are not welcome when it is. read more

Everything is better when we’re together

Heads up y’all, we have a guest blog today! NP_Bal transplant Nikki Reese is an ice cream loving, rosé drinking, brunch connoisseur, and today she shares a part of her with us. Nikki, you’re incredible and we’re all glad you left Baltimore for us. =&0=&

I am totally, unequivocally not not a runner. If you had asked me three years ago to run a mile, I probably would have a) laughed in your face or b) requested a treadmill and a time goal. I only “ran” inside.. at a gym.. on a dreadmill.. by myself. I “pushed” myself to achieve goals, but it was boring AF. I have moderate (used to be super serious) asthma, so even though I did a lot of sports in high school, it didn’t take me far, and I struggled with running outside. Often I wouldn’t run far enough because I’d get exhausted and give up. read more

Whisper while you canal

Heather V. and Kassi,

I regret to inform you that your winning passports have received a travel ban due to some missing paperwork. We haven’t heard from you, and there is quite the waiting list. Matt Siner and Billy Tressler have the two of you to thank for their passports receiving temporary permission. They have until the last LAX runner crosses the finish line this Sunday at Mountains to Beach to reach out to us with their shirt sizes. Should either of them fail to do so, then new passports will again be chosen. read more

NPassports

Today we traveled the world! We ran to the far off land in the north known as Turn Around Rock, but first we passed through Parking Lot of Trailhead and Bridge. To the south we conquered Astronomer’s Monument before heading into the dangerous wilds of Burpee Deck. Eventually we journeyed to The Bench which feels like a place that our ancestors told us of. Uphill both ways in the snow with no shoes or socks! I have to admit they were pretty creative in naming the countries. Way better than Madagascar, Zanzibar, or Kuala Lumpur. Anyways… read more

Punks Without a Cause

Today was the day that you absolutely did NOT want to miss. The reason being is that today was yearbook photo day! This year’s theme was Punks Without a Cause. The amount of guyliner, colored hair, and teen angst was enough to rival any Good Charlotte or Fall Out Boy music video.

Buck Nolting (LAX)

Today was just like any other Wednesday. I showed up to Griffith Observatory, and made sure the workout made sense. The pitter patter of crutches making their way across the parking lot alerted me to Maggie’s arrival. Then through the darkness a figure became more clear in the light and sure enough it was Steve. Today though, was Steve’s first workout not as a co-leader in a little over 2 years. Today, was the beginning of #BuckNolting. read more

Quack, Quack, Quack, #benlovesNPlovesben

Today was a salute to an inspirational human being. Ben O’Meara epitomized what the tribe is all about. His smile was infectious, his hugs were full of love, and his commitment was incredible.

We were fortunate to have Bill Monahan traverbal from Worcester this morning. Bill had one request, and it was to make sure that the hugs today were real because that’s how Ben hugged. The tribe clad in green and hockey gear, even some green hockey gear, definitely shared the love today. read more

Whatever, As If. (LAX)

This morning we went rolling with Cher and her homies in the Valley. That’s right, we did a random Monday morning pop-up and went to the SFV!

With inflections trending upward we ascended stairs, ran across a bridge, and then down stairs on the opposite side. Before retreating back to base there was a push-up to be done. Every time you crossed the bridge you added one more push-up, until you reached ten. After ten you started back at one except this time with squat jumps, and after those you did burpees. Melanie and Bri had an intense high five battle going to see who could slap hands with the most strangers. read more
