Guest Blog – Showing Up x Infinity (DEN)

DENVER NOTES:

  • 530 completely understood the workout.  615 did not.  It’s fine.
  • The bounce began in French, only Einstein understood.  We’re working on it.
  • Capture the flag, deck style.  Do an exercise, run up the hill, over, down, take the corresponding # of cards back to your home deck.  Repeat.
  • Team with the most cards wins?  Because then you have to go through your deck, traditional style, as a team.
  • Pushups, hill sprints, burpees, star jumps (or what I think were star jumps).
  • We still own the highest dog to human ratio in the NP-verse!  Barney, I’m sorry I yelled at you this morning.

Today’s guest blogger really needs no intro.  She’s been around for a couple years now and has no plans of slowing down.  Gabby gives us a sliver of her story and gives us a tasty morsel of what it means to #justshowup, to the workouts and to life.

Remember in school when you thought you were asking a dumb question, BUT really everyone had the same question? Well, I’m going to tell you a little bit about my ever growing relationship with November Project in hopes that some of it resonates with you. read more

Mushy Mushy Mush Pot (DEN)

A few weeks ago I stood in front of the tribe and, having been fortunate to co-lead this group for 2 years, I fake announced my retirement before turning on a dime and sharing that my wife, Cathy, and I are having a baby.  I’ve been calling him ‘Nugget’, which is also what I call Einstein’s dog, Kiwi, but that’s not the point.  The point is that I got a little choked up, and almost got the tears rolling with my fake announcement.  Chalk one up for getting one over on your old man. read more

WE MISSED YOU, Rachel and Ryan (DEN)

Here at NP Middle Management, we’re tasked with strict enforcement of a certain set of rules. If we don’t enforce the rules, Laura Green or Dan Graham send us a dead fish in the mail.  It’s in the by-laws, look it up.  So when a certain rule, a central tenet of NP, if you will, is broken, it behooves Matthew and I to ensure that order is restored.  That central tenet is accountability.  To you new kids, we call it “Dropping a verbal”.  Verbal droppings.  When you drop a verbal, it’s binding and cannot be rescinded within 12 hours of the next workout.  There has been a rash of verbal droppings spreading themselves across our tribe like a disease, or baby diarrhea.  This lovely composition, brought to you by our resident Scotswoman, Amy Bell, is what comes of verbal droppings. read more

Courie, We Missed You (DEN)

DENVER NOTES:

  • There was a workout this morning.  It was dark.  It was cold.  Courie wasn’t there.
  • Rishabh composed his thoughts and theories on what , pray tell, might’ve happened to dear Courie.

Today, the usually chirpy 5:30 crew missed a regular. The blatant absence of her presence was voiced by some, but felt by all. Her penchant for shenanigans, uplifting attitude, charismatic smile, and readiness to get #lit could have brightened an ominous and dark October morning.

In her usual spirited fashion, she verballed for the spooky Friday the 13th workout. read more

I’ve got my reasons (DEN)

530 Thundercats

DENVER NOTES:

  • With the flexible nature of facts these days, I’m stating it as truth that Denver was the coldest city in the NP Universe this morning.
  • Ready-Go’s that ended with barrel rolls on the ground were met with fewer than expected grumbles.
  • I still miss Molly Thayer’s lady growl for Ready-Go’s.
  • If you use the word “less” instead of “fewer” in front of Christine Gallager, she will curb stomp your shitty grammar and proceed to hug you until you admit you were wrong.
  • Never, ever, EVER run away from Chad Christoff.  He will straight up form tackle your ass into the dirt, then step over you yelling something about “how we do it in Iowa.”
  • Phone number workout is a classic.  Text your buddy the dumbest joke you can think of.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever set your alarm for NP, woken up, then decided to slap your snooze button and slide back beneath the covers.  {sips coffee waiting for entire group to raise hands} {raises own hand…then both} {spills coffee on crotch}

At some point or other, we’ve ALL wanted to say “Shut the F up!” to our alarms, or maybe we never even set them in the first place, because we just wanted sleep more, or it was too cold, or too wet, or too early, or too hot, or just too whatever.  Don’t get me wrong, there are some days when our bodies need the rest.  I’m talking about those days when everything is fine, but for whatever reason, you’re “just not feeling it.”  For those days when you’re just not feeling it, let me give you a working list of why #justshowingup is the best thing you could do. read more

Do I Even Belong Here? (DEN)

WHAT…is your favorite color?! (please read aloud in best Monty Python/Julia Child voice)

Here at middle management of NP, we LOVE guest blogs for several reasons.  First, a good middle manager delegates and does as little work as possible.  Mainly, we stand in front of you jabbering all the time, so our voices start to sound like your mom’s did in high school, and eventually you just tune us out and do you own thing.  Yeah, we noticed.  This voice comes to you from a lady who’s been in and out of torrid love affairs with NP, and she tells you why.  Alex Ammons is about to bring you a fresh, but familiar take on WHY YOU BELONG, and why we verbal. read more

Surprise Audit from the Capitol (DEN)

Remember this guy? Yea, he wasn’t here on accident. He was auditing the tribe, and here’s his report!

Super secretive operations brought me through Denver this past weekend, particularly on the final day of the week, in the morning, at around 5:30 and 6:15AM. Unofficially I happened to be passing through and wanted to surprise the bejesus out of the Denver coleaders. Unofficially (and probably never officially…still waiting for my paperwork to be approved by corporate) I planned on auditing the November Project 5280 Denver Mile High tribe (or whatever they call themselves). read more

A Letter from Alli & Dylan

Dear NP5280,

As we drive further and further from Colorado, we keep going back to how it doesn’t feel real that we are leaving all you beautiful people and this amazing state we’ve called home for the past 6 years. Whether we just met you last Wednesday (welcome new people – hope you stay) or have known you for years, thank you for being a part of such an incredible community. This blog post has some thank yous, some real life shit, maybe a fuck yeah or two, and us saying that if y’all don’t keep in touch we (mainly Alli) will cry. read more

I Don’t Wanna Grow Up (DEN)

#Paraguaysaurus?  #Paraguaysaurii?  #Paraguaynot?!

DENVER NOTES:

  • It’s becoming more and more clear that we, as a tribe, have a hearing impairment.  Blues, Crews, News, SHOES!!!
  • We took a page from NP-CHI and warmed up with partners in head, shoulders, knees, armpits, sniff ’em, and shoes.  There are a LOT of words that rhyme with shoes.  Sometimes I enjoy messing with you guys a little too much.  Sorry, not sorry.
  • I was fortunate enough to interphalangetate with Alli Bell for a full 2 laps of stairs.  Warm hands, that one.  Warm heart for a reptile, too.
  • 7 minutes of heaven/hell/purgatory/nothingness-if-that’s-your-thing was followed by no less than 13 moans and groans that the tribe was owed 20 burpees.  A few cheerleaders stood by while everyone else grabbed their knees in full survival mode.
  • Drew Beesing called me out on shorting you guys on time for your second trip.  I just wanted friends for my burpees.
  • No one puked…at the workout.  Results still pending.  That shit was hard!

This was one of those mornings that, as a co-leader, it makes your heart swell.  It’s hard to believe, but NP5280 has been doing #freefitness going on almost 4 years now.  We’ve seen a LOT of faces in that time.  Some go away for awhile, then come back.  Some just go away because paying out of your butt for CrossFit sounds like more fun than hugging a sweaty friend in a dinosaur onesie, then going out for burritos.  To each their own. read more

WE MISSED YOU (DEN)

Dear Alli, Dylan, and the entire Bell and Kintish families,

We missed you this morning.  It was supposed to be your wedding workout.  You told us you’d be there.  You told us you’d bring your families, in town to celebrate your nuptials.  Your infrequent-NPer friends, like Joe and Brian, even showed up just to be a part of your matrimonial sweatfest.   read more
