Bears, Tickling, Burpies

A tribe of bears took over Farragut Square this morning from 6:30 am to 7 am. If you don’t know DC, Farragut Square is where the major banks, lattes, and suites reside, so naturally we wanted to make this workout a bit on the WEIRD side. Check that off the list. After tickling thy neighbor, bear crawling around the square, getting berated by homeless man Billy who we woke from his slumber, we can fully say, #WeekendEarned #SuperBowlBeerEarned. read more

Government Can’t Shut Us Down

The hype was on. CBS brought the weatherproof DC residents out of the wood works. That included 12 year old LUCY at the 5:30 group, sorry Corwin you’re no longer our youngest youngster, but we still love you. The thing about DC is that the government likes to shutdown whether it be for house/senate disputes or for ½ of an inch of snow. So when the Memorial Officers took notices of us on the steps, they quickly shut down the steepest part of our playground. That’s cool, PR week became bust ass and do a few more burpies week with the gravity we could use against us.  We finished off with a snow angel plank dash to let us be big little kids again. Sound fun? It was. read more

The Tale of Two Tribes

With the Tribe expanding to the #PowerfulX, this blogpost comes from a two city staple, Celena Dopart. Celena was born and raised in the Nation’s Capital and is currently getting her master’s in aeronautics and astronautics at MIT (Turbo-fucking-Smart) doing a thesis on astronaut jet packs and how to best levitate from stadium section to stadium section. Celena made a big impression on the DC tribe during holiday break, continually bringing energy, smiles, and New England style hugs (still pushing for the hips to be in here in DC).  Now that tribes are popping up to the left, right, north, and south (maybe Celena will get us to the moon on day as well), #justshowup on vacation, or on business, or to see the SD hotties. Whatever the reason is, keep sculpting your ass and supporting the world take over movement. Here’s Celena’s take on the life of a two tribe woman. -DM read more

Meet thy Neighbor, Hug thy Neighbor

We fucking RUN DC
We fucking RUN DC

Ever see the movie the fog? Where ghosts come out of fog to kill you? Imagine that, but instead of killing you, they gave you a nice hips in hug. Felt like that today. 150, yeah, 150 people showed up this morning at the Lincoln Memorial for Neighborhood Thrown Down 1.0. The idea? Get into teams of 5 of people that live in your hood (next week carpool/runpool), get a makeshift baton (beer bottles) and get wild with thy neighbor. In the 5:30 group Arlington took home the trophy and in the 6:30 group the boys of NW DC showed up. Welcome home LAUREN BATEMAN to the tribe, what a wonderful smile to have back with us.  As always, way to rock it this morning DC, we are building community, smiles, and nice fucking tushies. This Friday we are at Garfield Circle, near the Capital, #WERUNDC. read more

Inaugural DC Deck Day

Friday’s Deck Day

DC’s first Friday workout was a hit. Run deck run went off without a hitch in the Nation’s snow covered white capital. 18 #weatherproof tribe members came together for #streetart, a combination of a deck workout, sprinting, and crayons. Finger dexterity made for some hilarious pictures of General George Henry Thomas (#Weatherproof is how the North prevailed FYI).  These items will be auctioned off at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural Badasses. #WeekendEarned read more

Just KEEP Showing Up, With a Smile

Washington, D.C.’s first guest blog post is being written from 13,767.9 [km] away from the District by our very own Lauren Bateman. Lauren is currently in the Philippines (where she has been knocking out deck workouts) working with the Red Cross in Typhoon Haiyan relief.  I personally knew Lauren was a special person back in October when I announced at the Wednesday workout that I would be scouting hills the next Friday and anyone was welcome to come. Lauren was the lone person who came out and pushed me to be better. Her dedication and constant positive attitude is infectious and we cannot wait to get her back state side to see that smile again. Here is Lauren’s message to anyone thinking about coming, experiences so far in NP DCA, and how good hugs feel at 6:30 am (really f-ing good).  read more
