Community.
Community is what hooked me into showing up to workouts almost 4 years ago. Our community of fun loving, positive, supporting weirdos. The ones who don’t hesitate to encourage one another, who do hoistees and offer endless squatpliments without fear of judgement. The community that exists beyond just the tribe you show up to. Everyone that shows up is a part of it. Pushers of positivity and free fitness. Existing in 44 cities worldwide along with a ton of potential new tribes that are doing some awesome things. This morning, in LA, was fantastic.

The Easter Bunny showed up to spread some love with his high fives, and we also had some friends join us from Westside Wednesdays. If you haven’t heard about them, they are a pledge group that throws down at Drake Stadium over at UCLA. Crushing stairs every Wednesday morning at 6:30, they are a part of our #freefitness family and it’s awesome when they join us to spread the positive vibes on Fridays. Here’s the thing, it doesn’t matter if you come to NPLAX, Westside Wednesdays, NPSF, East Bay Free Fitness, or any of the other tribes/pledges. All that matters is that you #justshowup to one of them because we’re all about the same thing. Building a community, being positive, and working out for free. Go to one or go to them all, and know that you are welcome at all of them. There can be a lot of negativity out there, and I want that to change. I want the world to be a happier place. I know that at our workouts, the more people who show up, the happier/goofier it can be. So for all of you in LA: show up on a Wednesday, either with us at the Observatory or with WSW at Drake, and then on Friday let’s bring both communities together for one big badass workout at 6am. To borrow a couple lines from my good buddy Will Shakespeare, “We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother.” We are all in this together. We are all trying to make the world a more positive place. We are all one greater community. We’re family.
Notes:
#APRHILL!! The challenge begins next week!! Folks will be divided up between Team Kait and Team Mess. Points will be awarded for every hill repeat that you finish. At the end of the month we will tally up the total scores and the losing team will do something “fun”.
Here’s how you can help your team out:
- #justshowup to every workout ready to put in work!
- #recruiteveryone! Want to gain a huge advantage over the other team? Every person that you recruit to the workouts, automatically is on your team! So recruit your tinder/bumble/scruff/grindr/craigslist missed connections date, your barista, the cop who pulled you over for getting in the turning lane too early, that dude you see responsibly walking his dog and cleaning up the poo, your mailman, or literally anyone else!
- Support your teammates with high fives, compliments, positivity, and some high energy!
- Set a goal for the workout and then beat that goal by 1 more repeat! Great way to start the day off reminding yourself that you are a total badass!
April 4th – NP Spring Cleaning Clothing Drive
Clean out those closets, make room for spring/summer and bring your gear to the workout next Wednesday. We’ll be doing our first ever NP swap/spring cleaning donation day. Following the workout, all the goodies will be donated to the LA Mission. This will also include any items/clothes that have been left behind at workouts and gone unclaimed. Happy Spring Cleaning! 🙂
April 6th – Starting April 6th, we’ll be combining the Friday workouts into 1x workout at 6am.
April 29th – Finish the Ride/Run
You definitely don’t want to miss this event! From 3x running race options to a few different rides (9 miles, 20 miles, 35 miles, and a 50 miler), this will be one helluva day to spend in Griffith Park with all your friends (and/or family). Even if you don’t plan to race, come out and cheer and picnic! It’ll be a fun race, an awesome way to give back, and get to know the community as well as our backyard.
