In our survey the vast majority of people told us that they came because of a friend (side note: survey video is still coming). That is how this groups sustains itself. There are ~1.4million people in this city. It’s not going to work for everyone but what may not have worked for someone 5 years ago, may very well now. Recruitment is key. Many have developed life time friends through this group and there is nothing wrong in continuing to grow and develop these circles. However my challenge to you, and this is something I am still practicing, is to break out of your comfort zone. If you have ever found even an iota of fun at one of these workouts, can you share that with someone else? A coworker, that person you just met at a party, random coffee barista etc.
Now I am not saying to barrage everyone you know, this challenge is one to be taken with care. That said: hell if you want to shout it from the roof tops – go for it!! What I am trying to get at is that one of the greatest gifts you can give is giving back – to share. Can you give back the positivity you receive in these early mornings and share this crazy amazing group?
Sometimes the only thing someone needs is a friend [or strangers]’s encouragement and their willingness to say, “I’ll be there if you would like to come.” You never know how much of a difference you can make just by putting out a hand, reaching out, and being there for someone. That person might not even realize it in the moment. If you told me what showing up to a commonwealth workout almost five years ago would lead to today, I wouldn’t have believed you.
Like anything, life comes in cycles and what works now may not work later. The uniqueness of this group is that it will always be there. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: 10, 20, 50 years from now so long as one person is willing to commit to #justshow(ing)up then the spark is alive. As you reach out to people, know that while you might only be offering a single event, who knows how it will affect them 10, 20, 50 years later.
Be it now, be it in the summer, be it 2 years from now my challenge to you is to #justshowup for yourself and #justshowup with someone else. If you have a way, a connection, or a medium to expose this crazy amazing group – then do it. I can’t wait to take the future head on with you and with the future people we haven’t even met yet.
Amazing work this morning crushing round two of bridge month. As you rolled your dice maybe the odds were in your favor, maybe you rolled double burpees haha. Either way you crushed it all before most people were even out of bed. I hope you learned the name of someone new this morning or learned something new about the person you booped noses with.
Wednesday – Royal Glenora Stairs
Friday – Walterdale Hill
Monday’s workout will be on a bridge somewhere
.Keep being awesome,
