Let’s be very clear. The Tribe Is Strong.
And the tribe looks really awesome in some tutus. It’s Halloween today and Summit Ave. was bumpin’ with color, candy, and recruiting papers. Seriously, we’re considering making every single workout a costume theme because there was some impressive attendance and even more impressive showing of personality and creativity through the costumes. Lots and lots of ballerinas. Some glowing, light up ballerinas. Some ninja ballerinas. Even a banana ballerina. Some of you make us question your ability to follow directions or we have to love you for your irreverence because you wore non-ballerina costumes. And get this–the king of playful irreverence, our one and only Brogan Graham was in the house this morning.

As three new co-leaders do our best to bring all we’ve got to the NP Boston tribe, we decided to keep the workout really simple today. Full frontal hills with Ballerina Wall Spice. That’s just a little something we like to do to showcase the twirling, leaping, arabesquing, and other super-ballet-y moves everyone has as they run down the length of the wall. Tutus were everywhere, and Deniz reminded us that while we can be weird at NP, we should not be odd today so everyone should push for 4 hills, 6 hills, or 8 hills. And all running was to happen in pairs of “tu”, or tu-tus, or three tus…you get the idea. The fact that anyone could even understand my Turkish friend means today was a success. People caught running alone or not in “tu”s were required to do a full 360 ballerina jump spin. Maybe it’s just me and I’m new being the tutu police, but I think a few people who I caught not running in tus thought I was harrassing them. We cut off at 7:15 for a wild parade of ballerinas, judged by our Summit Ave. superstars Grace (mini BG) and her brother Micah (who was Bojan on Wednesday at the stadium, but who transformed into a ladybug today). Seriously big shout out to Laura D’Onofrio for offering tickets to Boston Ballet’s Swan Lake as prizes for our costume winners. Laura also had some hills for breakfast this morning and we were happy to have her! And well done to the winners.

There were no birthdays today (wtf?) so we Halloween Boomed the creepy masked tribe member who lurked in the woods all morning. Well played my friend, that was some serious commitment to your costume. Even hugs from “I still come to November Project” Erica Holt and yours truly couldn’t melt the steely, creepy demeanor. He didn’t speak but he wore a tutu. Boom.
As you all know we have a monumental day ahead of us next Wednesday. It’s time to #RecruitEveryone and our incredible team of Recruiting Paper cutter-outers were busy with their scissors from 6:04 am all the way up to the group photo. I hope no one receives citations for soliciting strangers around Boston as you pass out recruiting papers in the effort to get way beyond our 814 member goal for Yearbook Photos. I say fuck 814, let’s get 1014. We can do this! Get out there, invite your friends, your sister, your mailman, and your dentist. Run with them, give them a ride, lend them your running shoes–there are NO EXCUSES why we can’t fill the whole damn stadium with the biggest crowd we’ve ever had. Can you hear the echo of that FUCK YEAH?!
#3014 November 5. Make it happen.
The workout on Monday will be on the Cambridge side of the Charles River between Weeks footbridge and the Weld Boathouse. Map HERE. November Project was born out of the reality that as rowers, Bojan, BG, and their team couldn’t practice if everyone didn’t show up. That’s how it works in rowing. Seven rowers don’t fill a boat for 8. So be the kid who shows up on Monday, not the asshole who sleeps in. Do it for yourself and do it for everyone else who’s gonna #JustShowUp. May you pirouette your way through Halloween today and have a ton of fun this weekend. #NP_DEE (That’s Deniz, Emily, and Evan) will see you on Monday and although Deniz will still be in NY on Monday, promises he will learn how to be loud over the weekend. He will probably always be impossible to understand but he means well and we love him so we’re keeping him. Nice job this morning tribe, WEEKEND EARNED!
