Building NP Community (BOS)

We, the coleaders of NP Boston, are looking for individual members to help us strengthen our November Project Boston community. We are looking to broaden the opportunity for member-involvement in NP Boston leadership through the development of committees, which we will be sharing more about in the near future. Right now we are specifically looking to identify members who might be interested in becoming a co-leader. Boston has a long history of consistency in leadership, but because a sustainable community thrives beyond the tenure of any individual coleader, it is important for us to build sustainability as much as we have relied on consistency.  Growth has always been a central theme of November Project, from the initial days in November of 2011 up to now and far into the future–and now is a time to not only look for growth in members (as we have so often in the past), but also to strive for purposeful growth in the infrastructure of NP.  read more

Boston Marathon Week 2021 (BOS)

It’s been a long 18-ish months since the last time the Boston Marathon happened and you wouldn’t be alone if you were still both pinching yourself to see if it’s truly happening…and also mentally/emotionally preparing yourself for it to get cancelled sometime in this last week before it’s scheduled to run on October 11, 2021. read more

Safety is Fun, right?! aka: Updated Safety Expectations for Boston workouts (BOS)

I was a crossing guard when I was in the 5th grade. As a student in the highest grade in my elementary school, I was chosen to stand watch over the crosswalk nearest my school during the mid-day transition between morning and afternoon Kindergarten classes. I wore a reflective sash/belt ensemble, I had a reflective crossing flag hanging on what reminded me of a broomstick, and I had learned the song to sing, “Left, Right, Left…Cross” that helped me be sure to look both ways before safely ushering the youngest students in my school across the street. I felt so special because I got to leave the school building during school hours! but also because I had a responsibility to help others, to look out for them and their safety, and maybe even to help teach them how to feel safe crossing the street on their own. Plus, that reflective safety gear was so cool. read more

Workout Updates for Boston

It’s Friday and so much is happening in the world of NP Boston workouts, we figured it was worth writing a new blog with all the info (also reflected on the website) but accessible in this format too.

Joy & Pain: Juneteenth (BOS)

Today was the third Wednesday back in the stadium after the pandemic-long hiatus of 15ish months. It was a long time to be away–a long time to wait for something that means so much to so many people. And for the many previous November Project members who took part before the pandemic, as well as for the many new faces who have shown up in the last three weeks for the first time in person, at the stadium, with NP, there is both joy and pain in this experience. read more

Wednesdays in Boston, Post-Pandemic

It’s been precisely 448 days since the last time we got up early, showed up, and climbed stairs together in the stadium. THE stadium. Harvard Stadium, which has been home — like home base — for NP Boston since the very, very beginning of November Project.

And on day 449, we will return. read more

Time to Listen (BOS)

November Project Boston started almost exactly 9 years ago.  It was nothing more than a system of accountability for friends to stick to the physical activity and purposeful fitness that they wished felt easier during the early mornings of winter months in New England.  At its core, it is about fitness.  It’s about how being physically active, consistently, helps you to feel healthier, stronger, more fit, and more capable—not only physically, but often also in other ways in life in general.  And it’s about how that fitness is way more fun, easier to be consistent with, and therefore more positively impactful on your health, mental well-being, and potential as a human being when you do it in a collective.  Fitness is good, together is better.  read more

Getting Outside (BOS)

Hey Boston–and everyone else who reads our blogs or attends our virtual workouts! We’re glad you’re here!

We officially been in quarantined, non-in-person, virtual workouts for more than 4 months (a third of the year) and I have to say, it feels good to know that NP_Continues…and we keep showing up with and for each other. I’ve also been noticing that it feels different now than it did a few months ago. Virtual feels almost normal, and as weird as that is to say, it’s true. We’re creatures of habit and we all seek out that feeling of normalcy, even when it means adapting to the ways we all now engage in our workouts together (which seems to be hunched over into a tiny screen, seeing parts or none of each other as they attempt to do movements that are only sometimes visible to their camera, and listening through wireless earbuds because the audio is more fruitful than the video). It’s weird and it’s also pretty usual now. Just like we don’t really bat an eye at the fact that Alban, one of our amazing Boston members, has been leveraging the space available for indoor workouts by setting out the yoga mat in the little space next to the shower and tucked in front of the sink and butt-ing up to the toilet. Yup, it’s bathroom fitness and it’s a real thing. read more
