Spin-der-bottle-name-gamen-toberfest (IND)

In olde Deutsche tradition, not unlike the olde Deutsche tradition of making new words by shoving old words together, we played the well-known Oktoberfest Get to Know Your Fellow Tribespeople Through Spin the Bottle Name Game-n.  It was a real “smash”, thanks in part to Alex and his Hulk alleyway dice throwing technique for bottle spinning.  Since it’s now well known by all 6:15-ers that I only pretend to know names, I’ll admit that I’m name-dropping left and right in this blog to lock some into my memory bank, Alex, Stephanie, Julia, Garrett, Al, Sean, Nneka, Jennifer, Joel, Patrick,  TORI!

Workout:

The workout went a little something like this, though it partially depended on which session you were attending:

  • Run a lap around the block to gather names.
  • Reconvene in a big circle on the north landing.
  • Hold a plank while someone goes to the middle of the circle to spin the bottle [or whatever’s left of it at that point ;)].
  • Middle person says the name of the person the bottle points to; right name is one exercise, wrong name is another, both in sets of 10.
    • For 5:28, right or wrong meant hoistees or plank jacks, depending on what those incredibly organized leaders decided at the time.
    • For 6:15, right meant plank jacks, wrong meant burpees
    • For both, up-n-overs came into play when we got a streak of right answers going (btw, great work motivational helpers!); there were other variations between the workouts, but hey, good news for Doubliners!
  • Person named (or misnamed) switches spots with the person guessing, and the self-perpetuating spin-the-bottle cycle continues.

In sum, disorganized 5:28; broken bottle; better organized 6:15; good motivational helpers on up-n-overs.  It was kind of like the reverse process of how spending an evening in a biergarten goes: instead of starting off put-together and socially-acceptable then eventually leaving mixing up your thoughts, acting on impulse, and breaking bottles, we started with the latter group and worked our way towards the former.

Notes:

  • Pop-up workout up in B-Rip this Saturday, 10/08, at 3pm along the Monon.  We’ll be meeting at the Blue Mile running store (where you can also receive a 20% discount if you drop the NP name on Saturday) for a fun workout, and we’ll do some bier-drinksin’ and socializin’ thereafter!  Details below.
  • Friday’s workout is going to be down on the south end of the downtown canal.  As always for that locale, we’ll meet at “The Tent”.
  • Jaden once again did a great job with the pictures; Thanks!
  • Thanks for the FB shout-outs by folks like Rem and J-Keys!  NP Indy always appreciates that stuff.  You guys encourage us just as much as we encourage you!
  • Andy was our Race Day winner with over a 3min split!  He’ll be wearing the highly-coveted Race Day Cape at all times over the course of the next week . . . at all times.  He also won the less prestigious but perhaps slightly more coveted “last German beer in Casey’s fridge” award for being best dressed at the workout (both workouts, actually)!
  • NP – The North Face shirts on the way sometime this fall; buffs on the way sometime this sometime (if you order them anyway).  Just keep #justshowup-ing to get hooked up!
  • We should be getting some lovely mail from our San Fran sister sometime soon too
