This week’s blog is brought to you by our very own Roderik Brasser. He may turn the whole blog post into one crude sexual joke, but he does get his point across; Runner’s High is real, the vibe at NP Amsterdam is off the walls, and #thetribeisstrong.
Feeling the vibe of the tribe!
…As you get into it, your hips roll forward so you are perfectly aligned. Your back is straight and your hands drop to your side slightly clenched. Each move forward is hitting the perfect spot. The tempo is just right. Your heart is beating fast, but you don’t even notice. Every inch of you is awake and senses the slightest touch. Your breaths are deep.
You don’t want this to end.
At that moment you realize… you are experiencing Runner’s High. That rare feeling of zen while running. Where you feel like you are one with nature and could run forever.
I was recently asked by a friend, if I had ever experienced runner’s high and what it was like. I wasn’t sure how to answer at the time.
I still don’t have a great answer. In general, it’s that euphoric feeling when everything is going right for a brief moment in time. Some may compare it to that magical love-making session like I teased above.
I do know it doesn’t happen often and it doesn’t usually last beyond that one activity. If you strive for it, you won’t reach it. It hits you suddenly and unexpectedly. You go out for a normal, everyday run and… Bam.
I have experienced runner’s high each time I get myself over the point my body say “stop doing this” and my mind is like “F*** Yeah, let’s go on!”. But I noticed I need to push myself further and harder to reach this, The first time I can remember was my first 5k run I did and I finished it. On the 3k point, it seemed like I could cry and die at the same time, but somehow at the 4K point everything was firing perfectly. I could feel the sun shining down on me. The cool breeze softly brush my arm. I could hear my teammates talking in the background. I felt like I could keep running all day.
Now, I need to work out more and more to reach this feeling. In fact, I can reach this feeling not only with running, but also in a workout like the November Project!
Especially when the 2k beep on my watch is going and the stairs at Nemo feels like a stairway to hell, that’s the point my body is at the same point where I experienced my first runners high!
My best runner’s high was actually at the week where Amsterdam Fit project became November Project Amsterdam. In fact, it was the best bridge day event I did. I was trying to push that little bit more to reach that feeling again and that morning the tribe was in an epic vibe from the first bounce we did.
As I came upon the point my legs were like jelly and my mind was shouting to my body, that moment I saw the people around me also feeling same pain, I was not alone in this pain, we all share that same feeling, I took off. I felt unbelievable. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life.
I am sure the “feeling” of runner’s high is experienced in many ways and we will experience many more if the tribe bouncing like that special morning in September 2016.
