“This is a new year. A new beginning. And things will change.”
The quote above is attributed to the 21st Century’s foremost philosopher, Ms. Taylor Swift. #NPNYC experienced a lot of change in 2017 — new co-leaders, new workouts, new locations and new members, which resulted in ups and downs throughout the year. As 2018 rolls along, the tribe will continue to evolve. As such, we have made it our goal to empower the tribe so that all of you can be more engaged in shaping its future. We recognize many of you have great ideas and want to make sure we’re providing a platform for you to share them. For example, we did the Friday workout poll for January and will continue to look to have monthly guest leaders. We want to reiterate that we are always open to feedback and new ideas for the tribe.
As you are aware, part of the change will include new leadership of the November Project NYRR racing team. For the better part of three years, Myles Fennon has captained the November Project team to some incredible results:
2016 Spirit Award winners
3rd (B), 2nd (B) & 3rd (B) place finishes – Women’s Division
5th (B), 2nd (B) & 12th (A) place finishes – Men’s Division
Myles has built, raced, captained, coached and cheered the November Project racing team to new heights. It’s a testament to his leadership that NP has become one of the most preeminent and recognized racing teams in the largest running organization in America. From his weekly racing emails to his pre-marathon pasta parties, the gratitude of the rest of us is as endless as the never-ending pasta bowl at the Olive Garden. Thank you, Myles, and especially your fiancé/racing partner/NP member Laura Ann Walsh for everything you’ve done.
In his place, we welcome a November Project and NYRR veteran, a pop-up and guest co-leader, and most importantly, an all-around badass woman, Erica Silbiger. Erica has graciously raised her hand to take on this role and has more than enough experience putting the team on her back. If the cheer squad at the Fred Lebow half-marathon was any indication, we’re very excited to see where Erica takes us next.
So get ready for more high fives, we are so excited for 2018 and look forward to growing and deepening the #NPNYC community.
Mary, Rob and Jason
