#NP_Lessons (DCA)

I was struck this week while scrolling through Facebook post-PR day and I came across this thread:

Prompting me to 1) Be insanely impressed by how thoughtful people were with there responses and 2) Accost people at this morning’s workout to ask them this exact question. (Kudos to Amanda for the inspiration, and CONGRATULATIONS on your NP-versary!)

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned through November Project? To the folks who answered, thanks, I applaud you–not only for giving me some awesome replies, but also for taking time out of your workout to think about it. If you have some #NP_Lessons you want to share, feel free to tweet it out @Nov_Project_DCA or jump into the comments section on FB. I’d love to hear it.

Here are some of the gems I heard this morning:

  1. November Project has taught me that  I shouldn’t be lazy.
  2. November Project has taught me that I’m capable of more than I thought I was.
  3. November Project has taught me that people are better together than they are by themselves.
  4. November Project has taught me that you can make your entire day better by just showing up in the morning.
  5. November Project has taught me that even if you’re not one of the fastest folks, you’ll still be accepted–plus, you get a dope tunnel to run through at then end.
  6. November Project has taught me what a true community looks like.
  7. November Project has taught me (through experience) to #justshowup ON TIME (ya never know what you might miss!)
  8. November Project has taught me to always run the relay at Summit, don’t run the marathon.

So there you go, 8 short and sweet #NP_Lessons. Not to get too meta or too sappy, but I would argue there’s an #NP_Lesson to be learned at every workout. A boundry/barrier you didn’t know you could push through, a fun fact you never knew, a tenacity and a kindness of the human spirit that is fostered every single Monday, Wednesday and Friday–that we otherwise are not always privy to.

It is hard to define the biggest/most important #NP_Lesson, and again, thank you to folks who let me put them on the spot for what can be a very existential question. I think my #NP_Lesson is this:

November Project has taught me how rewarding it is to invest you whole heart, and time, and energy, into a venture. I’m so unbelievably grateful for the people I’ve met, experiences I’ve had, and the lessons I’ve learned (and continue to learn!) at each and every workout. I’m glad you’re all here–I’m glad to be here too. MUCH LOVE.

You are damn fine, DC.

SPREAD. GOOD. VIBES.
