Today was all about pushing yourself further than your mind typically allows. Too often our minds tell us that our legs, lungs, heart, etc cannot push any further and that rest is needed. But, more often than not, your legs, lungs, heart, etc can indeed push further and you are able to do more than your mind wants to allow.
This morning I challenged you to sprint the bridge deck. “Sprint” meaning to run as fast/hard as you can and then, when you think you can’t go any further, take 5-10 more strides. Push past the limit your mind wants to give you.
This morning was a challenge for me too! There were times that I know I allowed my mind to hold me back, even with the extra 10 strides. There were times where I picked the middle of the bridge as my limit and then took my 10 strides and I probably should have taken an additional 10 strides considering I’d picked my end point before I had even started my sprint.
This is where our community plays a huge role. My most challenging sprint was the one Phil encouraged me to do with him. We sprinted the entire deck! Up to that point, I was making it just over half before doing a mini-recovery jog. After Phil’s challenge, I knew that I shouldn’t/couldn’t hold back and was pushed even more when I heard someone chasing me down or when I was trying to catch someone else. Throughout the morning I saw people encourage and challenge each other to run further/harder than they normally would. In the end, this will make your mind stronger because you will see how much you actually have to give.
