Dragon Boating on the N. Saskatchewan (YEG)

I wonder how many people are waking up this morning wondering why they didn’t #justshowup?

For all who committed to getting up early and spending their morning with the tribe on Labour Day Monday, we promised you an unforgettable experience and I’m pretty sure we were able to deliver on that promise. I have been looking forward to this particular morning since last October when the associate superintendent of my school division, Eileen, offered to take the tribe on the river for one of our workouts. We decided we needed to do this on a holiday Monday and coordinate it so that Andrew, Nadim and I could all be there…hence the 11 month wait for this morning to come.

While driving to Dawson Park early, in the dark, with the rain and the 5 degree Celsius temperature notification lighting up my dash, I thought…really…really…these are the conditions?! But as it always seems to happen we experienced the most magical, wonderful, beautiful morning…the rain stopped, the tribe showed up, the dragon boater volunteers came ready and we experienced the Edmonton sunrise while paddling on the North Saskatchewan river. Spectacular!! Huge thank you for Eileen and the Edmonton Dragon Boat Racing Club for taking us out on the river this morning!

While completing a few tabatas and shoreline sprints my group cheered on the second crews as they raced along the river. As I stood there taking in the moment I could help but smile and feel so incredibly grateful for our amazing city and this incredible community that we have all built.
