It was a momentous day on the banks of the Red River this morning. Members of November Project Winnipeg converged as the sun rose in the eastern sky all with a shared goal – crush PR day. But it was perhaps the most unlikely member of the tribe that came out on top. Don’t let the elephant costume fool you, Baby NP (who requested that her real name be withheld), attacked the 4km course with more vim and vigour than anyone else out there. “I started a little slower than I would have liked, but when I hit the 4km turnaround I think my carb loading from last night kicked in and I really started to feel the wind behind my back” gushed Baby NP when we caught up her at the finish line. She went on to state “it’s all about the community out there. I was running alongside people 57 years older than me. They are a total inspiration.” It is safe to say tribe members, young and old, will not soon forget this day.

Long-time member, Kelly Cowan, was crowned the latest recipient of the Positivity Award. This incredibly deserving awardee has been gracing November Project Winnipeg with her smile, enthusiasm and energy since the dawn of time. Never shy to give a hug, Kelly’s commitment to Wednesday mornings has not been lost on her peers. “She makes want to get up in the morning” beamed Milana Schipper – a sentiment shared by many other tribe members. Schipper went on to say “our car rides to and from NP are the highlight of my week… after the actual workout, of course.” Aside from this morning’s achievement, Cowan recently earned her own half marathon PR at LuluLemon’s Seawheeze race. Cowan credits hard work, dedication and, obviously, the NP workouts in helping her achieve this incredible milestone. Congrats again Kelly!

In the ultimate show of badassery, Junel Malapad, proved that #grassrootsgear doesn’t have to be relegated to clothing items. Admittedly, co-leaders, Tom Hall and Rick Duha, were a little taken aback when Malapad made the unusual request to tag his truck. But the end result speaks for itself. Make sure to give a honk and a wave when passing the #grassrootsgeartruck driving around the streets of Winnipeg.

Love is, truly, all around. For those who have not been lucky enough to watch the NP Milwaukee engagement video, stop what you are doing and spend two minutes being inspired by the power of love. NP Milwaukee co-leader, Ben Schwabe, and his fiancé, Kelly, are in town so in honour of their recent engagement, NP Winnipeg is hosting a pop-up workout Friday morning at the Legislative Building. Starting at 6:30am on the Broadway side steps of the Ledge, the workout will be a hard-nosed grind for 45 minutes. See you there!
