Oh man, after not getting to say a word during Wednesday’s Halloween race day I was itching to kick off November right. I really did practice the bounce last night before turning out the lights, I was pumped up for my 4:30 AM alarm – seems almost ridiculous to say that, no?

While I did take an extra 5 minutes of sleep before rolling out of bed at 4:35 am, I made it to the hill in time to do a little warm up run before a quick rest stop inside of Kinsmen (aka bathroom break). As I made my way to the group, with the snow falling from the dark sky, I thought about how cool it was that 50-60-75 people choose to get out of their cozy warm beds and venture into the snowy outdoors so that they can gather with their community to run hills on a Friday morning. It’s actually…bananas, B-A-N–A-N-A-S…! (Like what I did there?)

I’m sure the commuters driving down Walterdale Hill thought we were bananas as they watch from their warm cars all of us running and power walking up and down the hill. I’m pretty certain our eyeballs thought we were bananas as they were pierced by those little snow nuggets (no fluffy flakes today) as we cruised down the hill. And I am confident, if your experience was anything like mine, your coworkers, classmates, family, friends, dog, thought you were bananas for running in the snowy conditions.

But you know what, it was bananas and that’s exactly why we all chose to #justshowup!
