The last few months have been crazy. Crazy good. From cold mornings to Scavenger Hunts to Olympics and March Madness and Plank-a-palooza. 2018 has been off to a GREAT start. We’re here to tell you it’s NOT OVER.

In no particular order, here’s the good that’s coming your way:

The Great Trash & Recycle Race! Saturday May 12th, 3:30PM

Four score and seven days ago, Jake came across an article all about this thing called plogging. Some environmentally friendly folks in Sweden cooked up this idea: sift some running, scoop some trash, mix thoroughly. Immediately, we decided we wanted to do a plogging event but waited until it was warmer (you’re welcome). Other groups may have already done this but ours is FREE, more FUN, and there are PRIZES and free giveaways. In essence, our #FreeFitness actually PAYS you to #JustShowUp. In three weeks we’ll take to the streets, clean up, win prizes for cleaning up, and have fun the entire time. Saturday afternoon events are perfect to invite all your friends that complain about morning workouts. You won’t want to miss this. All the details are in this FB event! read more

Hitchhiker’s Guide to Three Stars, Two Bars (DCA)

Coming up on 1/28 is an event you won’t want to miss. Scavenger hunt meets trivia meets free fitness. It’s like the greatest thing since they combined peanut butter and jelly. Peanut butter and chocolate. Chocolate and mint. Mint and mojito.

Yes, Aanan. We mean it. The most fun since Bop It™ came out. This is your chance to see people outside of the regular MWF workouts. Your chance to bring your friends that maybe aren’t too keen on waking up at 6AM but still have at least one inkling of curiosity about November Project. Your chance to take home the GOLD MEDAL. read more

Cold, Fresh Start (DCA)

Bounce w/ tribe.

Run.

Bounce w/ Mayor Bowser (and a few hundred others).

Run w/ Mayor Bowser (and a few hundred others).

Those were items on yesterday’s agenda and it was COLD. However, did I want to start my 2018 any different? Probably not. In a perfect start to the Year of the Anacostia, we participated in (and got to lead the hype/bounce for) the Mayor’s #FreshStart5k over in Anacostia Park. You know, the 5k that Mayor Bowser holds every year. We had an awesome year of successfully recruiting her and subsequently developing a dope working relationship with her team and the Dept. of Parks and Rec. They loved us so much, they asked us to get hundreds of people HYPED at the 5k. I’m pretty sure the question wasn’t even finished before Maria (and Jake and I but mostly Maria) jumped right on that with a HELL YES. If you were there, you know how fun it was. Some might say it was the freshest start to 2018 in DC. read more

Dear Diary (DCA)

Say I kept a diary. Yesterday’s entry may have gone a little something like this (and yes, I’m ok with everyone reading my redacted diary):

Dear diary,

Hey. It’s been a while. Sorry I’ve been so busy lately.

(REDACTED: Interlude about what I’ve been up to)

LET ME TELL YOU about this morning. WOAH. HOLY ICICLES. Was it cold this morning? I couldn’t tell after about ten minutes cuz my face was numb. It’s like that song but it goes ‘I can’t feel my face with the wind chill is 9ºF (that’s like -13ºC for our international listeners)’. For realz though, the cold wasn’t THAT bad. Why? I’m glad you asked. I did some pretty solid layering. I wore some good socks. I had extra layers to put on once I stopped moving. And even some hand-warmers (they’re reusable and eco-friendly … thought you’d be proud). But MOST OF ALL, I kept moving the entire workout. No slacking. read more

#NPGiveBack (DCA)

Folks, we want to preface this by saying that it’s good, it’s empowering, it’s uplifting and it’s impactful to give back ALL the time. Especially in Washington, DC, there are myriad causes, organizations, events, and opportunities to make a real tangible difference in people’s lives, on the land we inhabit, on the communities we walk (and run, and bike) through, and so forth — whether once a week, once a month, or once a year. Giving back is easy. Giving back is also FUN. read more

Make It Yours (DCA)

This week’s blog brought to you by longtime member of the early Wednesday crew, frequent stair-crusher, and lover of all things NP (IN SPITE of the hugging)…you’ll find Katie consistently ready to cruise through the DC darkness and sweat it out with a few hundred other NP tribe members. Wild and Outside (DCA, BAL, RVA, VB)

As November Project participants (or watch-from-the-outsiders), we all know that MWF we like to play work out outdoors. Rain, snow, wind, hurricane, and incredible sunrises. We love it all.

This coming LABOR DAY WEEKEND (or LDW for those that love abbreviations), Steve and Maria are teaming up with REI to bring you an outdoor experience you won’t forget. Workouts, camping, culinary masterpieces, music, adult beverages. What more could you ask for?? read more

The Draw (DCA)

There are a lot of aspects of November Project DC that are great. Things that make attendees glad they came. Or nearly puke and then glad they came. The tough workouts. The smiling people. The sweaty hugs. Maria’s jokes. Jake’s puns. Ok ok so maybe those last two are controversial. Regardless, there are innumerable aspects of the MWF morning routine that wake me up, get me out of bed, take me 10 steps to the bathroom, slip my shoes on some time later, brush my teeth (this is an important one folks), and send me out the door to the next workout. read more

MOVE. THAT. BUS. (DCA)

Look up community in the dictionary, what does it say?

Community (n.) – a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.

OR

a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

Common attitudes, interests, and goals — November Project has those. However, the definition of community leaves out a couple things, like moving a grill four-tenths of a mile to help a couple get into their new home as part of an early-morning workout. read more
