I’ve wanted to write this blog for a long time, but it’s taken me awhile to get here. I’ve always tried to look for the best in people, sometimes ignoring blaringly obvious bad traits. Much to my father’s dismay, this also applied to the boys that I would bring home. I truly believed that deep down everyone was good, despite their flaws. To this day I still believe that, but I was no longer going to find it myself.
Runner Safety is for Everyone (VB)
So this week is Runner Safety Week. In addition to many articles detailing tips and advice, there is a weeklong Event held by The Run Collective in NYC. It always feels so impersonal reading these tips from your computer or your phone. “This could never happen to me!” “It would never happen where I live, it’s safe here!” I know, because I used to be one of those people. Until it happened in my city, to one of my very good friends.
You’ll Always Remember Your First (VB)
You’ll always remember your first… rain workout. Picture it, your alarm just went off, you rolled over and can hear the rain on your windows. In that moment you chose that you were still going to show up. Go back to that moment, can you still feel it? The groan as you get up out of your warm bed and the constant second guessing of your decision. “Am I actually going to go out there today?!” “Maybe I should just get back in bed.” “Nobody is going to show up today anyways.”
My First Half – A Guest Blog by Jennifer Murberg (VB)
I fucking did it, I completed my very first half marathon and I feel like a fucking badass! After 15 weeks of training and being consistent with all of the things. The day finally came where I had to put all that training to good work. I felt sick as a dog on Friday & I actually had an anxiety attack the night beforehand, even with all the training. It wasn’t easy, but I had a lot of fun and I would definitely do it again. I didn’t hit a wall and on mile 12 which was awesome considering I usually hit my wall around mile 7. I was so happy to see my time under the 3 hour mark too!!!
Being Thankful (VB)
Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday. There’s nothing better. What other day of the year are you surrounded by family, eating all the delicious food you can stomach, AND football is on all day!? It’s my own personal heaven. In recent years, my favorite holiday has improved by the addition of “Friendsgiving”. It’s all the great things about Thanksgiving, but instead you surround yourself with friends who feel like family.
So what is “Summit”? (VB)
The air is getting cooler, leaves are changing colors, and we’re starting to talk about this mystical event called “Summit”. Every time Summit is mentioned, you can feel the excitement buzzing in the air like electricity. People get excited, they begin to whisper to their neighbors, and the whole atmosphere begins to shift. But, if you’re new to November Project, you might not know what the hype is all about. So consider this blog post a quick crash course on what Summit is, and why everyone is so excited for it.
Getting HOT in Here (VB)
Today we were feeling the heat and humidity ahead of Dorian’s arrival, but that didn’t stop this group from pushing through a tough HIIT workout. While we got our bodies stronger this morning – it’s important for us to remember to get our houses and families strong prior to the storm. Even though we will not receive a direct hit from Dorian, we’re still expected to get a lot of rain and winds in excess of 30mph. So for today’s blog – we’re gonna remind everyone of some Hurricane/Tropical Storm safety tips.
Love Letter to NP – A Guest Blog by Robin Schuhmann (VB)
I’ve been contemplating writing this blog for some time and had even started it a few times but I couldn’t quite make up my mind about what to write. Originally, I had planned to write about my struggles with obesity, anxiety, depression and other life hurdles that have made things challenging for me over the years and how joining the Virginia Beach November Project tribe has been life altering. All of this is true of course but I realized something…this isn’t just about me…this is about something greater than all of us. This blog entry is dedicated to a concept that all of us yearn for as human beings, a concept that binds us together with bonds stronger than steel but more flexible than rubber, a concept that allows us to thrive in an environment of love and support. This concept may not be the reason most of us starting coming to November Project, but it is almost certainly the reason most of us keeping coming back: Fellowship.
