Why You Need To Come To Friday Hills In July (SF)

So here’s the deal. We want to race more. And not just PR-day-when-no-one-shows-up type of race. We want to throw down weekly with people cheering one another on and digging deep into sand trails to get that last half point for their team. Which is exactly what happened this morning…and it was incredible.

I watched the determination on Alice Sergent’s face when I screamed “60 seconds to go” as she strided over the top of the sand mountain from hell to touch Buck’s car and finish the rep. I also watched (in fear) as Varun threw himself down the ladder with 20 seconds to go in order to get that last half point. Whether or not you call yourself “competitive”, every single person out there this morning worked a little bit harder for the sake of their team. It was really fun to be a part of.

For the rest of you, here is how you can get involved:

Every Friday for the remainder of the month, you will be assigned to Team Laura, Team Paddy, or Team Zip. As a team, we cumulatively count the amount of hill reps completed over the course of 4 weeks and the winning team gets to choose a song for the losing two leaders to do a choreographed dance to at a Wednesday workout. They also get to choose the costume. That’s the part I am most scared of.

If you were on Team Paddy this morning, then that will be your team for the rest of the month. The newbies will be assigned to a team as they come.

Even though I am 100% convinced there were issues with the counting this morning, these are the standings as of today:

Team Zip: 80

Team Laura: 73

Team Paddy: 70

Next Friday: Coit Tower. Get involved.
