For the strangest edition of our new regular feature of the NP_BOS blog, “Know Your Tribe” we’re doing a co-leader special highlight. We rocked a weird bounce this morning, we ran & photographed some Indiana Jones hills, and now we’re going to see how well we know each other…
Today’s Know Your Tribe will be about Chris Capozzi and Emily Saul, but written by the other one.
If you don’t want to read this gold and want to show up on Monday, look no further.
Here we go:
Name: Christopher Capozzi
Alias/Nickname: Lightning Girl. Wait, Moose! HAHAHAHAH oh, nope, those are his two idols, Liv Klawiter and Charlie Holt and he only wishes his nicknames were as cool as either of those two kiddos. Capozzi’s nicknames: Capozzi, Capoze, Capo, besticle, (and you can’t call him Chris because that’s way too confusing with the other Chris around)
Date of First Workout: Sometime in the spring of 2013. Maybe June? Definitely before I started going.
Why’d you Just Show Up? Capozzi hadn’t really been a runner, and he wasn’t sure he could be called an athlete. But he knew he wanted to do something about his fitness and NP was just fun enough, weird enough, and interesting enough to help him get past his fears of not being fast or athletic.
Bostonian or Transplant? Boston is his home tribe. He’s a local kid, just grew up on the north shore.
Tribes Visited: So many. Boston, NYC, DC, Philly, New Orleans, LAX, SD, SF, Madison, Denver, Vancouver, probably others too.
Tribe Crush: awwwww shucks…don’t make him blush! (but really, Roger Huffman – NP_MKE)
Favorite NP Day of the Week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. All the days. Yup, he’s Capozziing real hard over every single NP workout.
Favorite Recurring Workout: You know it, I know it, say it with me: INDIANA JONES!
Least Favorite Recurring Workout: all the ones that he can’t run because he had surgery on his knee. And then the other knee.
Favorite NP Workout EVER: I think there are three–The Easter Egg workout with BG and Bojan. Labor Day on Castle Island 2015 (his first workout as a co-leader). And the ICA workout last week–it was the perfect combination of hard, weird (those chickens!), unique, collaborative, and fun.
I’ll never forget… the first Summit he went to in Madison. I think he fell in love hard with NP that weekend. (It might also be the last drunk dance party at which he didn’t tear a meniscus!)
I laughed hardest when… Payne talks. The two little boy cones just giggle alllllll the time.
Anyone inspire you at NP that you haven’t told yet (now’s the time…don’t make it weird)? He tries really hard to tell people when they inspire him. And he gets inspired all the time. Seriously. We have so many little conversations about how he met someone or finally had a good conversation with this person or that one–and he’s awe-struck and inspired. Capozzi sees the good in all of you–I know this to be true.
Why do you keep showing up? Because he loves this. He loves what it does for people and for the way it’s changed him too. He believes in the fun, weird, awesome experience that fitness can be, and he believes in the power of community. He didn’t always have that when he needed it, so knowing that he gets to help create that for other people keeps him going.
What do you do for a living? He’s an architect. And a professional 12 year old boy.
When you were a child, what did you “want to do when you grow up?” A skateboarder DJ graffiti artist.
What is your superpower? #Flirtcruiting
What’s a question that we didn’t ask that we should’ve? What’s your spirit animal? Moose Holt.
My Turn!!! (Capoze here)
Name: Sauce, Em.
Alias/Nickname: Chris. Little-girl-cone-in-training. Note the in-training.
Date of First Workout: Didn’t she start this movement?! Like numero uno?!
Why’d SHE Just Show Up? The international soccer legend, John Depina, recruited her. It took the boys in charge about 3 workouts to realize she was basically steering the ship anyways and I think in her second week she took over.
I think the real person we should all be thanking is Depeenz.
Bostonian or Transplant? Transplant. She’s a mid-western girl at her core. BUUUUT with that said, she’s obviously a Bostonian now. She ain’t going anywhere.
Tribes Visited: A few. Remember she took over Boston her second week… Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, SF, SD, NYC… and probably some more.
Tribe Crush: Um that’s a no boner… sorry brainer…
EVERYONE! She loves EVERY fucker that shows up.
Yup you over there, YOU’RE her favorite! And YOU’RE her favorite and YOU and YOU and ME. We’re all her favorite!
Favorite NP Day of the Week: Wednesday. Biceps down.
Favorite Recurring Workout: Stadium. Specifically Raceman. I think she gets her jollies off making people barf at a workout.
Least Favorite Recurring Workout: Indiana Jones… Yes, I know.
Favorite NP Workout EVER: Besides 5ummit because that is everyone’s favorite…One of her favorite workouts was when she was leading down at the north end wharf. It was the perfect combo of badass, hard, partner based fitness with the weird, unique energy that NP is all about. I remember that workout and she lit up that pier. She learned a lot from that workout and still talks about it when we’re planning mondays together.
I’ll never forget… The first weekend we met. It was an all-in, can’t back out no matter how awkward shit gets, group date. We spent the weekend in Ontario for an ECS. We stayed in a two bedroom crib with her, KP, Micah, Rachel N., BG, Bojanton, Coach Harry and Tony D. Three full days with this powerful woman and you’re all in. She knows everything about you. Throw a 10 hour drive back to Boston and she’s part of your fam. It’s like you’re inviting her to your grandparents 45th anniversary of getting their catheter removed. Much to her chagrin, I’ll never forget any of the blackmail I learned about her that weekend.
Oh wait!! There was also that time she made her epic return to running from a gnarly ankle twist. I ran with her, her first run back for .125 miles out and then back to the base of summit. I’ve never seen her more amped up. I thought she was still on some sort of meds, but I get it now. That first run back, you’ll never forget.
OR OR the time the little boy cones ran with her during the Boston Marathon in 2016.
or or or That time we celebrated her bday (which, head up, is around the corner) with another all in, can’t back out no mater how weird shit gets, Em Sauce weekend in Vermont. They are the best.
or or or or who am I kidding I could go on all day…
She laughs hardest when… Payne makes a poop/fart joke or picks her nose.
Anyone inspire her at NP that she hasn’t told yet?
She tells everyone that inspires her, that they do. She won’t keep that in — that’s just her!
Why does she keep showing up?!
Because this women lives this movement. No that’s not a typo, she LIVES it. Of course she loves it — we all do, but Em Sauce literally breathes NP. The love she has for everyone and the community that she helps build everyday is unheard of, its unwavering — Bostons lucky to have this one. Im continually in awe of her passion, dedication and all time she puts into making every day the best. Not only during that one hour M,W and F but every minute of every day.
What do you do for a living? Judging by the equipment in her car…

…I’d say a nude circus cowgirl.
When you were a child, what did you “want to do when you grow up?” Definitely a naked cowgirl. See NP does make your dreams come true.
What is your superpower? Sorry Liv, but she might actually be Lightning girl. You’ll be able to take over and train with her but she creates rolling clouds with every sit up; and thunder and lighting with every push up. Ever wonder why there was 40,000 thunder storms last year…
Also her insane and incomprehensible ability to get to know every single person she meets on a ridiculously deep level. On a daily basis. It’s something I look up to her most for. I feel like she also has 40,000 best friends because anyone who has ever met her feels that care she gives them and within minutes they’re usually opening about their deepest secrets, crying or pissing their pants laughing.
What’s a question that we didn’t ask that we should’ve?
What’s your anthem?!
definitely “Fight Song”
although I found out this morning “desparacito” is in the running…. it means slow and steady… 😉
