Today’s workout was hard. Like, really hard. We ran around every inch of the Capitol, up and down allll the stairs for 30 minutes straight, and then gutted out 5 minutes of burpees, plank, push-ups, plank, BURPEES. There were smiles, there were groans, and there were smiles again when it was over. Yes, we heard you and saw the twinkles of dread in your eyes when we announced that we were doing ANOTHER minute of burpees. So, WHY do we do so many burpees?!?

We do them because they are hard and we don’t like them. I’ll be honest, burpees are one of my least favorite exercises…when I’m by myself. But, burpees are one of my most favorite exercises at November Project. There is no getting around it, they are tough. But having a friend next to you encouraging you to do just one more can give you the strength to do five more. We purposefully make our workouts hard because community thrives on challenge. Getting through one minute, or seven minutes, of burpees together builds strength – physical strength, but more importantly strength within our community. We can do SO much more when we are together than we can by ourselves – that is why we #justshowup, that is why we push and encourage each other, and that is why we do so many burpees. So, next time you hear your co-leaders say the magic word “BURPEES,” be excited, turn to the person next to you with an encouraging smile, and welcome the challenge knowing that you are about to be part of something powerful and exceed your own expectations about what is possible.

Best thing about BURPEES? When they are done! 😉
