How often do we look into each other’s eyes? Like, really look into them? Without words and without looking away? I know we all conduct staring contests with Nick via FaceTime at least once a week, but in every day life, with every day people? I watched this incredible video called I See You and it shows what happens when you make eye contact with a stranger, and the amazing things that follow: connection, emotion, interest, love. (Seriously, click the link and watch it before your read on, I’ll wait.)
This morning as we stood across from each other during the bounce, we made that intentional eye contact; we asked how the other was doing. We knew that our bodies were about to be destroyed from endless planks, stairs, and burpees, but we knew we were doing it together. We looked at the sunrise over the harbor and connected with this place and these people.
Take a moment to look not just at what is around you, but to look at people. And not just at people, but into their eyes. They will reveal more than you know. People that walk by the tribe in the early morning with their dogs or cameras or children (kids on the playground at 7AM – apparently it’s a thing), they are surprised. Not only by the fact that a large body of sweaty individuals are doing squats in unison, but because each one of you take the time to wish them a good morning and really mean it. And the fact that it is surprising is unfortunate, but more-so exhilarating.
We have the opportunity to look at each individual we encounter right in the eyes and be that surprise in his/her day – to be that positive force that includes, loves, and cares.
Esti is one of those women – one that cares and grows and changes and loves. She deserves the positivity award this week and every week!
Reminder this is tapering week – get those legs ready for #NP_BAL’s summer Sunrise 6K and get ready to race the tribes next Wednesday.
Continue to be bright Baltimore. Continue to push barriers and run Charm City with more than just exercise.
All the love,
Syd
