We always have a home

If you think this morning was fun, you’re right.  The #DestinationDeck crew met in front of the formerly known as John Hancock Tower (technically called “200 Clarendon” now) to get our free fitness groove on.

The workout was solid, the tribe was strong, we were flowing through the circuit of lateral step-ups, burpee-lunges, plank-cruches, skater-jumps, plank-oblique crunches, and sprints.  Despite the wind-tunnel gusts that almost levitated us in the air and the almost-but-not-quite spring temperatures, we were hot.  On fire.  Fierce fitness.

And then, almost as if on cue (as the all-knowing Papa Bojan predicted), the security guard from 200 Clarendon stepped out to ask November Project to leave.  “No thank you,” he communicated.  “You’re making it too hard for people to get into the building.” And just like that, we were without a home for the workout.  Because we’re both far more likely to ask for forgiveness than permission when planning Monday deck locations–and we’re also kind, respectful human beings.  So when we get asked to leave, we leave.  We’re cool with that.

We’re clearly so cool with that, that immediately upon crossing the street and entering Copley square, the Tribe was ready to go–in their 4 groups and re-starting the circuit as if we had been there the entire time.

We finished the workout, complete with a shoulder burn circuit and brand-new #RandoGuy burpees.  As I ran to work from the deck through the city, I found myself reflecting on the metaphor of the morning.  Sometimes you find yourself without a “home.”  Without a space to workout, even though you made plans.  Sometimes you find yourself without a home-crowd, because you’ve moved or have some transition happening in your life.  Sometimes you find yourself without a home-routine, because of injury, illness, or that “life-happens” shit, which disrupts the routine.  Heck, sometimes you even find yourself without a home…like when Molly lost hers in a fire.  And what this morning reminded me is that we always have a home.

We always have a home.

Sometimes we need to adjust our workout to find a new temporary home-base to finish the workout, but we find a place to land and finish strong.  Sometimes we need to find the tribe in a new city because we’re making that big move.  And sometimes we need to find our way back to the rhythm and consistency of the NP routine to feel a like we’re moving in the right direction in life.  Sometimes, like Molly did, you couch surf and wear someone else’s running shoes until you get your own again.  But no matter what, when we stick with the Tribe, we always have a home.

Come on home, Wednesday to the stadium.  We’ll have some hugs waiting for you.

#grassrootsgear tagging is also happening on Wednesday–so show up and earn your tags.  (All NP tags will be on the front, at the top of the shirts, in black paint.)

The Tribe Is Strong.
