Regardless of what you celebrate this holiday season, November Project Boston has had some fun doing workouts that celebrate and are inspired by the holidays at hand. Today’s Christmas Eve workout received inspiration from “The 12 Days of Christmas” and included the following exercises–done in a growing circuit of movements (just as the song builds in gifts). The final round of the workout was:
- 12 low planks with alternating hand taps to the side
- 11 step ups
- 10 skater jumps
- 9 bench dips
- 8 partner squats
- 7 push ups
- 6 mountain climbers
- 5 fuckin’ burpees
- 4 V-ups
- 3 tuck jumps
- 2 fast lengths (sprint down & back)
- And a skip around the Christmas tree (while singing any song)
Our workout ended with a reading of a Christmas poem by EmSauce, inspired by the original “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” by Clement Clarke Moore.
‘Twas the morning before Christmas
‘Twas the morning before Christmas, when all through Beantown
Not a creature was stirring, they were all laying down;
The tribe had shown up in the Seaport with care,
In hopes that St. Fit-i-ness soon would be there;
The co-leaders nestled all snug in their vests;
With plans for the workout, There would be no rest;
And Capoze in his ‘puffy, and I in my hood,
And the tribe had just bounced and we asked, ARE YOU GOOD?
When down on the Common there arose such a yell,
The residents up there looked out and said “what the hell?!”
Into the workout we flew like a bird,
Tore into the sets, the reps were absurd.
“Now, Burpee! now, Jump squat! now Lunges and Push-ups!On, Plank Taps! on, Mountain climbers! on, Tuck jumps and Step-ups!
To the top of the bench! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”
And then, in a twinkling, I heard at the deck
The running and jumping of each little step.
As I looked at the tribe, and was turning around,
To the Seaport St. Fit-i-ness came with a bound.
He was dressed all in neon, from his head to the ground,
And his clothes were dirty from burpees ALL THE WAY DOWN;
Circuits of exercises he flew through with ease, To keep his form tight, he did push-ups on his knees.
His abs—how they rippled! his biceps, how strong!
His legs were like tree trunks, his “high fives” like a gong!
He was a fitness-loving fool, with spray paint on his chest,
And I hugged him when I saw him, after he gave me a “yes”;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his workout,
He did the whole circuit; and then crushed the burnout,
And standing aside of his tribe full of friends,
He straight-faced for the group photo, but wished it wouldn’t end;
He gave his last hugs, said “I’m glad you’re all here,
And away to his home he ran with the speed of reindeer.
But I heard him exclaim, before he ran completely away—
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all, HAVE A GREAT DAY!”
