Tommy Layman had a Wonderful Poo Today

There’s a lot of events happening this week. Confused about where to be?
FRIDAY MORNING: Summit Ave. 6:29am
MONDAY MORNING: Cleveland Circle. 6:29am
MONDAY LATE MORNING: Mile 18 water/cheer/bonanza station. 8am-???

It’s officially spring in Boston. How do I know? Well, it snowed last Satuday, and was 75 degrees Tuesday. It was also absolutely batshit at the stadium today which means all the hibernators are rockin out of bed early in the morning to get in on the vibe and throw down on some stairs.

We ran 7Boroughs today which splits people into 7 groups based on their speed and/or how fast they wanted to move today. Electric-fast folks go to Borough1, folks that are there for a solid workout but don’t climb as fast–to Borough7, everyone else spreads themselves along that spectrum. The idea behind this workout is, November Project meets 3x/week, and we only do a PR day 1x/month. Those folks that you race next to every month are more or less the same in January as they are in April (well as long as they weren’t those slacker hibernating fools), and October. 7Boroughs gives YOU a chance to meet those people. The ones that you’ll have a shot at encouraging on Section 12 when you’re coming around the bend. The ones you’re screaming at on Section 3 when it feels like there’s nothing left. And conversely, the folks that need to know YOUR name so they can do the same for you.

This community is important for many reasons, but what you and I both know is this:

The bigger the group, the better the workout.

We move faster, push harder, and get louder. The reason the former increases the latter is because of that interaction, and the push we get from each other. 7Boroughs is designed to increase that interaction, get you guys knowing the names of the people around you, get you talkin shit to the Borough next to you, and get you some much deserved shout-outs from the folks around you that see you working hard but just can’t remember your name.

Going to have a brief aside here–if you don’t know someone’s name, ask them. People that frequent NP understand it starts early, there’s a f*ck ton of us, and it’s easy to forget names–we’ve all done it. Don’t be afraid to ask them what their name is. I struggle with this too. It’s ok. Be bold. Take the plunge. It’ll be alright. Call someone Tim or Oliver a few times until they tell you their name is actually Dan (Big shoutout to TDO for winning the PA this morning–he’s a g. Get to know him before he leaves). They’ll set you straight. Have a laugh about it, and then run next to them for a bit. Call ’em out by name (this helps everyone around you learn names too) and remind them they’re crushing it all the time. Stalk them on facebook. Ask them out on a date. See if you can shadow them at work. Ask if you can take care of their childr–wait. Hold up. Maybe just start with their name first…IMG_2671

All that said, this week is crazy. This Friday starts the weekend the right way with #PRHills on Summit, then parties and after parties and shakeout runs all weekend. We’ll be sprinkled throughout those. Then come find us monday morning for a kickass workout to start off your name-screaming-day-drinking-shout-out-cheering-day-of-awesomeness that is the Boston Marathon. After that, scoot on over to Mile 18 where the name-screaming-day-drinking-shout-out-cheering-day-of-awesomeness actually takes place.

Much Love,
– C. Payne

P.S. Did you read this far to find out about Tommy’s poo? Yeah, me too.
