You think you know, but you have no idea. This is the life of Brooklyn, aka Sabrina.
Apps on apps on apps…so many people in the city to meet. Of course I met the wrong person on the right night and the right place.
Prior to walking into the bar, I looked at the dating app. I quickly took a glance at the picture of the dude I was about to meet. I walked into the bar that was dimly lit. There were couples to the right, left of me and people in the back. I saw a man sitting alone waiting at the bar. I looked up at him and he greeted me without saying my name. I had to jump onto the seat next to him (a common challenge for me with bar stools) to introduce myself and have a drink.
We talked and asked each other questions yet nothing made sense. I noticed this woman walking around the bar aimlessly staring at her phone as if she was being stood up. I continued to ask questions because this may be the man of my dreams and I needed to know if he likes ice cream! After 20 minutes he dismissed himself to the bathroom and took quite a while. I started singing the 80’s hit that was on and talking to the bartender to try to figure out that it was a Tears for Fears song.
My date finally came out of the bathroom and it looked as if he’d seen a ghost or had some sort of “Along Came Polly” moment. He walked to his chair but didn’t sit. He then said, “hey, something came up..I gotta go.” I think to myself, well this is a first. Ok, this is like the movies. Is he going to fake/pretend that his friend called and he has to go save him from some sort of catastrophe? Even worse I get no real excuse why he’s almost ushering me out from the date and giving me the look like…”well? Hurry and go!”
I get outside and I think (probably screamed out loud but can’t remember) “how daaaaaaare he?” So confused, I hopped in a cab to meet friends out. As I told them the story, one of my friends asked if he ever texted me or what his info was on the app that I met him on. I did some “intel” and low and behold…nothing matched. I looked at my phone and BOOM. I missed a text from the dude that said, “hey, I’m sitting all the way in the back outside of the bar because it’s so nice out.”
Annnnnnnd there ya have it…wrong date! So basically, in the end, I ruined that girl’s date that was pacing waiting for her date who happened to be sitting next to me as I half interviewed his ice cream flavors. I ruined THAT guy’s date and basically ruined mine. BOOM!
The real guy did respond to my apologetic text to meet up with me that same night. Boom…went on the right date with the right dude on the right night.
