I feel like #EmSauce started this blog on Monday, but here’s Part 2:
At this point, it appears unlikely that we will reach #150k for the month of August. Would it be cool to hit 150,000 sections?
Absolutely.
At this point though, I don’t even really care if we hit #150k*, because the effort I’ve seen, and the growth I’ve witnessed out of this tribe over the last 23 days has been extremely fun to watch. I’ve seen people that routinely show up to get 8-9 sections posting half-tours. I’ve seen people that routinely show up to throw down full tours nab 60-70, double burgers, centuries. I’ve seen more people at the stadium at the most random hours of the day, on the weekend, and at night. I don’t know many of us that haven’t run more sections this month than they ever have in a single month before.
It’s just been such a cool experiment in the community and shared goal we have going on here at November Project Boston. If you haven’t been to the stadium after hours, go check it out this week, this weekend. I guarantee you’ll run into at least one or five other NPers running stairs. All driving for the #150k. Heck, I’ll probably go back tonight**.
When we first started out 23 days ago, we knew 150k was going to be hard. We felt it was attainable. Extremely difficult, but attainable. Was that ignorant? I don’t think so. Unrealistic? Maybe. But think back to the very first time you heard “The workout today is #frogman1! Or 50 sections.” Did that seem attainable? Not to me. I laughed like an idiot, thinking, “I’ll never be able to do that.” Today I grabbed 84.
There’s something we all learn when we throw a stupid large goal out in the world, and shoot for it. We could’ve set the bar at 50,000. But what fun would’ve that been? Why would you ever play on ‘Easy Mode.’ I don’t know about you, but I’d rather spend all my time playing ‘Hard Mode’ and losing every time, than breeze through on ‘Easy’ once***. After seeing what everyone threw down today, it’s clear you don’t play ‘Easy Mode’ either.
Regardless of how this turns out, seeing what everyone has been capable of has been extremely impressive, and remarkably motivating to everyone involved. I tried to stop today after 60, and I just couldn’t. When everyone is moving, stopping seems like less of an option. If everyone is moving, stopping isn’t an option, so you just. keep. moving. We’re going to make it to #150k. It might take us longer than August, but #IDGAF. I’m tracking sections ’til it’s done.
This tribe has motivated me for nearly 4 years at this point, and it’s clearly not stopping any time soon. Keep your heads up, crush as many sections as you can, and let’s see how high our number goes.
We’ll see you Friday on Summit Ave. for some non-section-hills.
Much Love,
– C. Payne
* I will be spending every waking hour available to me trying to hit 150k.
** I’m not making any promises, cause earlier today I was more like this.
*** This is a video game reference. I apologize to the 90% of people this was lost on.
