The Little Things.

Sometime around 5:32 AM on the 21st of September.  At the height of one of my highly technical bounces, yelling: “uhhWAHhahaaahhHAhauh” – I took a look around at the giant wave of silhouetted skulls bobbing up and down.  I immediately stopped.

This is the 5:30 crew…

THIS IS THE FIVE-THIRTY CREW… I wish I could instantly dispense the image in my brain of today’s 5:30 bounce like a polaroid camera, because even this group photo doesn’t do it justice.  We may have had the largest un-hyped Wednesday 5:30 crew of all time. This might not seem like a huge deal but it’s these #thelittlethings that make this Wednesday day different from every other time we show up.

What weirdos set their alarm for 4:40AM to show up, bounce and run stairs with our crazy asses?!  Well these few hundred apparently. Fall is right around the corner, summer is over — shouldn’t these numbers be dropping?! NOOOPE not here in Boston!

Rewind to last night.  Look — setting the alarm EVERY Tuesday night for a 4:40 AM wake up call is not always peaches n’ cream for any of us. But we do it because this tribe, these workouts and experiences are important to us.  The thought of sleeping in crossed my mind but I’m not missing out on the shenanigans that the morning would bring.

Then comes the dreaded 4:45 AM – I drank my gallon of espresso (how the fuck do you think I get so much energy at 5:30?!), packed my dozen bananas in my bag, grabbed my camera and did the old smell test to make sure the shorts and shirts passed. BOOM.  I was about to hit the road when I got this text….

A broken verbal.  (That’s a double whammy for the week.  This will be featured in an upcoming ‘We Missed you’ post for Miss. Kara Lennon.  Dropping later today…) #thelittlethings

This was like adding a turbo shot to my morning espresso chug.  After this I knew today was gunna be good.

As I rolled into the stadium, I was immediately mauled by my hairy West Coast brother, Euge, who surprised Boston with a short vacation. This is the place he decides to surprise us.  Harvard stadium at 5:15AM*… Damn, barista toss me another shot. #thelittlethings

Cpayne lead a THUNDERy bounce to the mammoth 5:30 crew and we start to get after it.

Now 5:30 Capoze was like “what IDIOTS came up with this FIRE DRILL workout?! Em Sauce quit banging** that thing!”

Not even 5 min after the early birds caught their worms, 6:30 Capoze comes out strong with “ohhhhhh HEEEEELLLLLL yeah! Y’ALL READY FOR ONE OF THE BEST WORKOUTS OF ALL TIME?! SOME HOT-TOTTY FIRE DRILL SPIIIIIIICE – This shit is GOOOOD!” #thelittlethings

Then comes the send off. The part week after week where I suffer from puberty and ultimately lose my voice.  Except this time I’m called over by the Sir Ethan Bookman.  “There’s a skunk at section 19.”  Now anyone who knows Bookman, he’s a funny guy and can’t be taken seriously.  So I laughed directly in his face and respond, “you think I’m gunna fall for that?!”

Sure enough there was a skunk lost at section 19.  Here is my public apology to Bookman… #thelittlethings  (#PRskunk anyone?!)

Now during the workout you come across badasses that just MAKE the rest of your day.  People that are possibly expecting their first child later TODAY; people that are making big moves across the country chasing their dreams; NP transplants; newbies; and all you fine folks that continue to absolutely destroy these stairs week after week to the point where Harvard Stadium needs to repair them.  #thelittlethings.

Then comes the BIG things.  The PA announcement.  The most meaningful award given at workouts (besides the Blue Ball, obviously).  Today it was given to a long overdue OG of IG, Dylan “Dmeister” Ladds of Dooster film.  There is not much words can say about this dude.  If you know him, you know this dude deserves to just frame this shit and keep it for good.  Those of you who don’t know him, get to know him.  This is one of NP’s finest.  His excuse for his lack of consistency lately is because he is doing BIG things for the NP movement. That is DEDICATION.  This is one of the few free hall passes we give away.  Keep changing the world with your Doosts.  The worldwide tribe loves you.  #theBIGthings (I’m not taking any responsibility for the spam you’ll receive for using this hashtag)

OH the party is not over yet.  As I arrive to work I find the beautiful surprise that C Payne left on the camera.

Thank you for assuring that I’ll always have a job here at NP.  It might get me fired from everything else, but thanks for keeping me entertained.  Today’s album is self titled “The White Album”.

Whether you’ve been loitering with us since the get-go or today was your first time showing up, today was unlike any other.  The energy, the vibe and the intensity was through the roof (-less stadium – gotta work on that metaphor) today.  It is these little things; from the fun of a broken verbal, the bounce, the jokes, the shit talking, the hugging, the PA, the skunk at section 19 and all the other weirdness that ensues, that makes showing up worth it.

We’ll see your new beautifully sculpted butts on Friday morning.  6:29 AM at the hills in Brookline.  Corey Hill Park. #recruit #justshowup
