The Block is Hot

I have a confession for you, Dear Reader. I consider myself a pretty strong-willed guy, but my resolve is wavering. See, I have yet to turn on the A/C in my home. Yes, the daily highs are rubidium-melting, enough to cause mercury across the valley to liberate itself from thermometers like the chestbuster from Alien. Even the overnight lows are more mirage than oasis. Yet I persist.

Most people rejoice at the thought of summer: barbecues, pool time, running around outside. But we’re different here: things shut down, we become EXTREME morning people, we curse the sun. I don’t like early mornings, you don’t like early mornings, nobody likes early mornings. And we scurry from our air-conditioned houses to our air-conditioned cars to air-conditioned businesses. The most wonderful time of year it is not.

Wisconsin Notes

  • MONDAY: Let’s get social. We’re having our usual workout at the Cholla trailhead on Invergordon and Cholla, followed by a hike up Camelback and brunch at The Smith (37th st and Indian School) afterward. We plan to start hiking ~6:45am, and brunch ~9am.
  • T-shirts: You waited and waited and… you were let down. Look, we were given a VERY disappointing number of t-shirts, which were snatched up forthwith on Monday. We have a couple left over, which we are saving for giveaways in the coming weeks. We’re not happy about it, either.
  • We turn TWO in July! We hit the century mark last year, let’s do it again this year.

Today saw an 80° workout (on the way to a high of 106°), a few birthdays, and piles of burpees. The Duel in the Desert is always a special one for us, but we upped the ante a notch by introducing loser burpees. That’s right, loser buys burpees by the handful. This was to ensure we kept you honest, and by the sheer number of bodies at the top of the stairs near the end of the workout, it worked. It was also a way to ease into Just Stairs June (#jsj), in which we get back to the basics by doing nothing but stairs throughout the month to commemorate our very first workouts.

Birthday people

Anyway, it’s hot (boo), and clothes are coming off (yay). But I’m breaking down this week. The A/C is coming on. It’s not something I’m proud of, but I fear for my sanity otherwise.
