Good morning, tribe!
Way to fight through the noise, rain, and claustrophobia. The conditions were adverse, and presented their own challenges. In workouts like today, the impetus for positivity and fortitude shifts a bit off Andy and I to the group-at-large. It was great to see how that played out. Amongst clouds and puddles, you shined.
Such an occasion also presents a great time to introduce a direction I want to take the tribe in this year. (I haven’t explicitly talked with Andy, but I know he’s behind it, too). As you might remember, this year’s 5ummit theme – in concert with Westin Hotel’s mantra – is “Let’s Rise“. In fact, 5ummit’s Saturday night party is based solely on interpretations of this idea. How cool! I don’t think that night, alone, is enough for us, however. The sun rises every day- so should we. I want to explicitly challenge NP_CHI to Rise Up all year. We already know you’re fast, fit, strong, and the sh$% … so whether personally or as a tribe, let’s ascend.

Let’s Rise. When work is stressful and days are long. When the weather and the temps make staying in bed so much more desirable. Are we pushing ourselves towards our goals by staying in our warm beds? Or, are we staying resolute to our goals, knowing that the tribe is #weatherproof, and will help bring you one step closer to them, alongside you, with you. Out of bed, let’s Rise Up.
Let’s Rise. When the grass is wet and the mud is thick, when the temps are immeasurable or the humidity is off the charts … remember that you have already done the hardest obstacle- you #justshowedup. You made the choice to be with your tribe (read: YOUR tribe), and so what’s a little dirt and sog and sweat between friends? Don’t let the adverse weather conditions weigh you down- instead, think about how much you can gain by slogging through, nose to the ground (unless it actually is mud), and making the most of your time, your morning, your goals. What you get out of each workout is up to you, and in many ways, you alone. We’re here to support you. Rise Up.
Let’s Rise. When the traffic is slow and you are running behind. When your legs are heavy or your energy is down. We bounce for a reason! Its purpose is to forget the negative, coming together instead in unison, strength, and positivity. When dogs are barking, sirens are blaring, and bicyclists (+ runners) are grumpy that you’re “in the way” … just remember that the outdoors is YOUR space, too. Own it. and Rise Up.
Let’s Rise. When the workout is not your favorite, or isn’t challenging to your abilities. Remember: it might be brutal to someone else. Add more reps or run faster! There are dozens of modifications; make it work for you. Andy and I just provide the template. Be the example for not only yourself, but for the person next to you by taking your workout to the “next level”. Fast or slow, push you. Inevitably, you’ll be an example for others around you, whether you believe it or not. You’ll gain more personally, and the tribe will follow your lead. We don’t have two tribe leaders. We have 40, 50, 100. Sometimes rising up is not being the loudest, or the brightest, or the fastest. Sometimes it is the presence of quiet strength that sets the tone and leads by example. These are ways to Rise Up, too. So, Rise Up.
But, you know these things. There are thousands of reasons you choose to get up early in all weather and in darkness to meet us, just as you could also choose to not. There are choices you are making… and we are so so thankful that you choose to spend time with us. Already, you Rise.
If feasible, Andy and I try to hug and say “Hi” to each and every one of you who comes out each morning; we are truly thankful you’re there. And the more of you there are, the better. Each additional person is another “Good Morning!”, hug, moment we get to share. Personally, this has made all the difference for me- with this group, with this movement. As I challenge myself to Rise this year- physically, and other ways- I hope you’ll continue to join. Whether it’s the community, bad jokes, cute pups, or the physical activity … thanks for being a part. Let’s Rise together.

NP_CHI is fast, fit, strong, and the sh$%.
Now, Let’s Soar … Let’s Rise.

I have a question about weather. I live in Montana, and I’m thinking about doing something like NP here. However, I’m curious what you do in the winter. My family lived on the North Shore when I was growing up, and I remember the winters well. We can have serious winter here, as well. I’d be grateful for some advice. Thank you.
Hi Cynthia!
We workout all year long- every Weds and Fri. No weather or temperature has cancelled a workout. In the winter, gear is key. The other important thing in the real cold temps to to keep the blood flowing – running and cardio more than strength. Cover your skin, wear layers. Other than that… it’s pretty straight forward! Does this help at all?
