Take a Load Off

Hey you!  Yeah, you who reads this blog and who has probably been running a shit ton of stairs over the last 31 days.

TAKE A LOAD OFF!

No really, it’s been a pretty big month of activity here at NP_BOS and we’re really, really, really, really, really, really happy and proud of what we’ve accomplished as a tribe.  We’ve logged 97,000+ sections!!! (and for crying out loud, if you’re still one of those Carolyn McCrone’s who did a whole lot of the sections but didn’t write any of them in the tracker, put them in here, or comment in the blog below, or comment in the FB post that this blog is linked in, or personal message Joev or #EmC2 and let’s get those sections counted.  We all have until the end of the weekend to report your sections.  No more sections can be completed to be counted, but the ones already done definitely need to be recorded.

We’ve also accomplished an even more important goal than massive amounts of stairs climbed–which is firing up this tribe.  Getting inspired, getting out there and challenging ourselves to do hard things, and getting just enough uncomfortable to realize we have new capacities.  We’ve learned the names and faces of tribe members new to us, we’ve been motivated and wildly inspired by the human beings around us.  The hype has been huge and it’s been fun.  This is what it was all about–breaking out of the norm and finding something new within ourselves, within others, and within the tribe.  And for that, we (EmSauce, Capozzi, and CPayne) are getting inked with NP tattoos.

AND NOW it’s time to take a freaking rest.  #RestDays are good. Important. ESSENTIAL to healthy bodies, healthy minds, and a healthy tribe.  Sure, we can train our bodies to tolerate and sustain high volumes of work within workouts and for extended periods of consecutive days…but not forever.  It falls under the safety rule #7: “don’t be dumb.”

The next challenge for the tribe is to take a note from our friends at @restdaybrags and pick one of the days this weekend to take a day OFF from physical activity.

Sleep in.  Take a couple naps.  Don’t go for a run.  And for the love of the chrises, don’t go run sections at the stadium! We’re serious about this.  So serious, in fact, that we’re throwing out a little contest.  Take a rest day this weekend* and craft a creative, inspiring, funny or fun post about it on the ‘ol IG using #NPrestdaybrags and #restdaybrags.  We’re looking for the best Rest Day bragger, who will be rewarded at the stadium on Wednesday. Ready? GO!

MONDAY is a holiday, but not from NP. #DestinationDeck will be held on the water-side of the JFK library near UMass Boston.  Sweet views, easy access to the beach, and the very best way to start Labor Day**.  See you kids there.  Tracker has exact location.

*If you’re one of those kiddos who already has a full weekend planned with long runs and mountain hikes and all the fun, long-weekend stuff, then promise us you’ll take at least one (or even 2!) rest days in the next week.  Do it!

PS It’s not too late to go to the North Face Speaker Series that’s happening this coming Thursday (9/7) at the Aquarium IMAX in Boston. Amazing stories told in film… Get tix here:
