Mirth, Friend[s], & Fire[d Up People]

That title’s a bit of a stretch, but so was the link between backwards lunges and BBQ; for those that missed that fantastic witticism, here it is again: “Those in the workout world call these babies[, referring to backwards lunges here,] bbq backsides because they’re best done looooowwww and slooooowwww.” …It beats calling them pork butts I guess. read more

Knocked the Lights Out (IND)

Absolutely stellar Race Day performances today!!! Collectively knocked the lights outta that workout with tons of PRs, great numbers at both workouts, high energy, and strong newbie showings, especially for such a rough workout (nice work, newbies and recruiters)! Some folks worth recognizing by name: Blake (hit his sub-15 min mark; woah!), Andrew (sub-16!), Anne, Morgan, and Beth (all shaved time like it grows on Jaden’s face). Awesome job! For any others that PR’ed or know of a friend that PR’ed, please give them and/or yourself a shout-out in the FB pics (and tag yourselves)!!! Maybe it was the news coverage or maybe it was the cool air, but whatever got people so fired up and PR-poised, lets get it going again next month! read more

Ey Bae Bae (IND)

Two Baes for the dubliners who had to do that shit twice (also for the two baes Bae had); nice. nice. nice work!!! That is always tough. But what’s tougher is trying to shake that song from your mind. Get out of there, you!

*****Interruption by 6:15 group*****

……You guys hear that shit about 5:30??!! Apparently those early-morning clown-towners worked out during an absolute downpour before we got here! read more

A Very Typical Day (IND)

Nothing to see here… Just a grumpier old man saying, “I’ve had it up to HERE with you; you meddling kids mind your own damn business,” and startling mild-mannered youths.

Waaiiiitttt a tic… I’ve got this all wrong!!! EVERYTHING to see here!

The “older” thing applies, but the “grumpier” definitely does not (except if we’re talking War Memorial staff). And more like “medaling” kids, amIright??!! read more

Picture This (IND)

Picture this: A cop, a grounds crew member, and an easily agitated neighbor walk into a group of free fitness freaks. A specific NWA track drops and those fitness freaks bus awll dem foos, break a foot off in dey ass, y generally give ’em the business.  That’s what happened this morning . . . MINUS the busting of fools, breaking off of feet in any collective ass, and transacting any sort of B2B or B2C commerce, and PLUS courteously responding to all inquiries concerning our boisterous nature and mobile photography studio. But really, thanks for giving us the green light cop and crew dude, and go back to speaking on behalf of imaginary ‘concerned others’ at town hall meetings, pesky neighbor. read more

The Inauguration

There are not many words that can describe the raw emotions of Wednesday’s events in becoming the 37th city to join November Project. The fact that Bojan so casually strolled up to the centennial flame and stood among our tribe (or should we say towered over) as a regular weekly member, left us jaw-dropped. There were literally no words. With only a Facetime date planned with our amazing mentor Jen Ference post-workout for a quick check-in, it was just going to be another fun and exciting 6:29am workout on the hill. read more

moist mushy mush pot

We showed up in the quiet before sunrise to cruise a lap — or, for speedsters, laps — around the dark, glassy lake with high expectations for another breathtaking Wednesday morning. Upon finishing our conversational jog with those conscious enough to talk before coffee, we reconvened at our normal meet spot, greeted two police cars parked nearby (they were fortunately not there for anticipated noise complaints; though, unfortunately for them, they couldn’t join our workout today), and we set up our station-rotation workout with marking the sidewalks in chalk and readying shirts and spray-paint for tagging #grassrootsgear. Then we proceeded to yell mushy mush pot. No story there. read more

Everybody Get Your Roll On

Executive Review

We had a 7+3 workout today, with people teaming up in kindles of four to six for waterfalls when they weren’t climbing stairs. The music was #1 stunna, the people tagging energy high, the tagged undergarments on fleek.

CRTL-ALT-DELETE. Hit snooze, go back to sleep.

Long Play Version

We stumbled out of the blocks this morning. “Jump Around” went so well in my head, but sadly that wasn’t the case in practice. But that’s OK, ‘cause I’m still fly. And I’ll stick to easier lyrics from here on out*. Luckily DJ Drew got our roll on, opening the playlist with “Jump Around.” read more

October Everything (12.10.16)

This morning was about getting to know a mini tribe within the tribe and running faster than Indiana Jones. Normally I’d go into it, let you all know how much I love and appreciate you people, etc. but we have a lot to throw at you right now:

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

This weekend:

Sunday: If you are running, on the post that I initiate in the social group, write your bib number and the distance you are running. Wear #grassrootsgear and we will cheer our faces off for you. If you are not running, come cheer at the cheer zone by Running Junkies. If you want to help set up, we will be there at 7:30 AM. If you want to drink, bring some beer (or whatever). If you want to hold a sign, make a kick ass sign and we will take pictures of you looking like a pro cheerleader (you don’t have to run to be a badass). If you want to throw confetti and dance around, #justshowup. Location: here, right smack in front of the Rijksmuseum, on the side of the road, not the iamsterdam sign. read more
