So Good… (YEG)

Thank you, Jerrold,  for taking care of the tribe this morning and writing the blog! Until next time…SMILE! J
Hi Everyone!!  So I’ve been revisiting a specific book again this summer.  It’s called “So Good They Can’t Ignore You – by Cal Newport”.  On page 33 of the book, Cal talks about an interview that comedian Steve Martin gave back in 2007.  In that interview, Martin gave some “advice” for aspiring artists.  Martin goes on to say:
“Nobody ever takes note of (my advice), because it’s not the answer they want to hear.  What they want to hear is ‘Here’s how you get an agent, here’s how to write a script,’…but I always say, “Be so good, they can’t ignore you.”
When I read that again this week, it sorta smacked me in the face that that is what November Project is.  It’s so good, you can’t ignore it.  It’s got this thing that starts getting into your mind the night before.  You ponder whether you should get to bed or if you should just stay up a bit later to do one last little thing. On occasion, I personally try to sometimes “justify” not getting up so early – especially in the summer when I don’t have any job to get to (I know I know – the teacher gig) – but I get sucked back in when the alarm is set for 515am and I wake up at 514am naturally…NP is SO good, you can’t ignore it.  So yeah, I go. Then the rewards kick in.  For me, it’s from the first person I see at the gathering and I think to myself, ‘whew, I’m glad I’m not the only one here’ and ‘oh hey, I haven’t seen that person for a while! I wonder how they are doing?  I’m gonna go say hi!’ (My person was Keith today and I went and said ‘hey how’s it going?!!’).  Then that collective bounce energy, you work your a** off for 30min, you feel great and there are dozens around you who feel the same way.  It’s SO good and you are completely stoked that you chose to show up.  You can’t ignore it!
So I just want to say thank you for being here today – I know you get this message a lot, but WE are all SO good, we collectively can’t ignore it.  See you Monday!
P.S. Steve Martin is in town tonight at the Jube….I got my ticket.  Never pass up an opportunity to see a Master in action.
