Hill repeats are good for two things: sore quads and high fives. Thats kind of it.

We all know that running hills is important but why do we hate it so much? Oh yeah, because it’s hard. That’s why Doheny is a good Friday spot, because it’s sneaky hard AF. That gradual incline feels nice toward the bottom but come Elevado, you’re taking down some serious elevation and by Sunset the the fun is done….set. Even the decline is lackluster because it’s kind of too gradual to actually be gratifying and give you a break. Great spot for a Friday, right?
But despite the sneaky-difficult givens of one of LA’s more posh thoroughfares, the best thing about being at Doheny is leaving with a sore hand from all the slapping. Someone (can’t remember who) posted on IG the other day that a high five at NP is a way of telling someone, “You’ve got this.” and even if you don’t have the air in your lungs to respond with words, you can put a hand up. Heck, sometimes you even can’t muster bringing that hand up but it’s always nice when the offer comes at you.

We like NP because it’s a place were we can get that support, where we can feel like we’ve got a #cheergang every day we run and we even start to feel like the whole world is our cheer gang. How many of you have give high fives to strangers when you run on your own? I know I have. It’s fun and it’s important and it’s another example of us bringing what we do into the world.

Keep up that homework, tribe. This city needs us, this world needs us, they just don’t know it yet.
Do great LA.
