#Septbastian

Today is Labor Day, and while the world takes the day off of work, as a holiday from all our labor, we at November Project keep moving.  It’s one of the truly awesome things about NP–that regardless of the dates, holidays, weather, or craziness of life–it’s there.

The workout today was overlooking the sunrise and the ocean on Columbia Point, where the JFK Library sits next to UMass Boston.  Some described it as “far away” from everything, but I gotta say, while we were there this morning, it felt like we were everywhere.  The sunrise, a view of the city, and the history of Boston scattered all around us.  Fort Independence on Castle Island in the distance and the beautiful JFK Library towering over us as we worked out.  The ocean and the harbor islands were right there, and we had a perfect view of boats of all kinds passing by while airplanes soared overhead.  And a day that feels just a little bit less rushed–with just enough extra time to take in all that beauty, all that history, all of the city and the community of human beings around us with a smile, an extra hug, and a wave of gratitude for it all.

And then we kicked your asses.  Not gonna lie, it was a hard workout, even if you were trying to take it easy.  And if you were working your ass off, it got handed to you–not only during the 3 x 8min circuit that gave everyone a full-body (holy shit your arms are tired) workout–but then again during the 7 min of burpees aka: #Sebastian as the burnout. It went a little something like this:  In partners, you spent 2 min at each station, rotating around the 4 stations.  You repeated the rotation three times.

Station 1: pushups & tricep dips.  Partners each do one then switch after a minute.

Station 2: Walking lunges & frog hops.  Partners, again, do one then switch after a minute

Station 3: On the library stairs–Partners each do 10 stairs of wheelbarrow walks, then both do bear crawls down the stairs.  Continue for 2 min.

Station 4: At the grassy hill–Partner 1 sprints up the hill and down while partner 2 does body weight squats, then partners switch.  Repeat for 2 min.

And then.

THEN, we did 7 minutes of burpees.  It’s officially #Septbastian.  Forget the alleged #sleeptember you’ve seen some people hyping.  We’re talking about every single Monday of September will include a #sebastian.  We realize that by telling you that, you’ll possibly decide to avoid Monday #destinationdeck workouts because you don’t like 7 min of burpees.  They’re hard and it might feel intimidating.  But after seeing how the tribe responded to #Frogust, it seems like a good time to just tell you about the hard stuff to come in September.  We’re banking on you deciding that Mondays are worth getting up for and working hard at the workouts is the point of having the workouts.  And just like doing lots and lots of stadium sections helps us realize what we’re capable of, if we do one of those mind-blowingly hard things like a #sebastian every single week, then we will similarly realize that we are physically and mentally capable of so much more than we thought.  And don’t forget that if for some injury-reason you can’t do burpees, you CAN do an alternative movement for 7 minutes and we’ll see what kind of progress you can make during the month.  And since we like to record data, use the NP tracker to record your Sebastian burpee count today.  We’ll keep track all month!

And speaking of #Frogust, we’ve officially passed #100k sections.  We’re getting our final final entries of sections from folks who had yet to log them on the spreadsheet, but our final, final, final number will be announced.  If you or anyone you know has sections that were completed in August and not yet recorded on the spreadsheet–get it done by Tuesday (tomorrow).  The spreadsheet will close and our total sections will be official on Wednesday morning (announcement at the workout).

THIS WEEK, remember The North Face Speaker Series is happening on Thursday night (Sept 7).  Get tix and have a chance to socialize with the tribe, amazing North Face athletes, and other cool human beings at the Aquarium IMAX theater, where the film will show.

See y’all on Wednesday.  Keep changing the world.
