Ahhhh.. I can’t even tell you how good it is to be back. 3 weeks is a long time. That’s 10 workouts and 22 days away. I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited to come back home. I missed that Edmonton charm (some people refer to it as wind chill). To be honest, I went to some pretty amazing places, but none even come close to Edmonton. We rolled into bridge month this morning… For those that weren’t there, rolling into bridge month feels like you are rolling into people on either side of you. Bridge month is the best. Also, if you’ve never been to Bridge Month… well… it’s my favourite set of workouts of the year. I’m excited to make you all think differently about the bridges we’re heading to this month. I still have the urge to honk at people on the 142nd street bridge after last year’s All Star Workout. Today’s workout was going to be on a different bridge, but it’s not built yet since the girders buckled. Yes, we planned bridge month almost a year in advance.
January also is when people decide to make some resolutions or set some goals for the year. And whether or not you achieve those goals or not, the important part is that you keep working towards it. Last year, I had my different race goals, but I also had my goal to get to know more people in the tribe. That sounds weird; because we all know a lot of names and faces but do we know anything else about each other? And while it’s something that I’m trying to get better at and will continue to work on, I know I’ve been making progress. We also had some tribe goals as well, and if I think back to last year when Jen and I envisioned for the tribe in 2015, it’s safe to say that both of us are more than thrilled with how the year turned out.
What are some of your goals this year? Whether it is to run for 5 minutes without stopping, or to give out 50 hugs every week, I can’t wait to cheer you on (unless your goal is to be evil… then I might not cheer you on). They say that if you tell people your goals, they will help you achieve them and will hold you accountable to them.
Here’s one of mine:
One of my goals is to make you fall in love with Edmonton. And while it might seem like a tall order, you probably already love this city and don’t even know it. We live in a beautiful city, with amazing people, doing unbelievable things. And I can’t wait to open your eyes to all of it. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll shoot you with arrows with the tips dipped in YEG Kool Aid.
What are your goals this year? And if you haven’t got any right now, it’s probably time to start thinking about them.
See you all Wednesday at the RG Stairs.
