At 5:15 this morning Paul and I were discussing the strategy for the workout today. We were both a little sleepy , Paul had some drool crusted on his cheek as he got a sold 9 hours (because he lives so close to the workout and got a new “job”). Out of the corner of my eye I see a wide awake pearly white smile carrying what looked like three huge boxes of baked goods. It reminded me when I was kid and my mom would buy hostess cakes cup cakes and shove jelly beans in the center and frost them to make people think she home baked them. She would them load them in the car and park illegally by the dumpster while we carted them into the school. Sure enough there were home baked scones with hand printed labels on them to distinguish cranberry from chocolate chip. I was shocked mostly at the fact that he brought those baked goods all the way from Marine park Brooklyn. He must of woke up at 4:30 to get to the workout and he looked fresh as a daisy and had a smile that could light up the room.
Remi is a huge part of the running community he is a volunteer “freak” for NYRR. In 2015 he was awarded the Joe Kleinerman award for his dedication and commitment to NYRR and commending his volunteer efforts. Remi is one of a kind you don’t see many generous people like him. He loves the community of running so much that he spends his off days giving back.
In 1994 Remi had a rare cancerous tumor on his brain. He was fortunate that the tumor was outside the brain and they were able to remove all of it without under going chemo and radiation. He took one look at Cancer and said “hell fucking no, your not gonna mess with me”. Its no surprise to me that Remi over came cancer. He displays so much determination and commitment. He is a pure joy to be around and we are so happy to have him as a tribe member.
If you slept through todays workout well the joke is on you. You missed the birthday bash of the century. Remi baked some of the most delicious scones I have ever tasted. I am so used to the store bought kind I am embarrassed to say Ive never had a home baked scone but it is defiantly what dreams are made of. We brought back the king of pop for Remi to dance to which was quite a sight. Vader’s dad showed some pretty amazing moves but Remi totally killed. We loved you Remi you were the sunshine of this workout today and we are so happy you are here. We hope you have the most amazing Birthday yet!
