If you saw the sun rise, or celebrated the very beginning of the longest day of the year (summer solstice) at NP, good job. If you didn’t and you’re reading this blog to see what you missed, then you’re gonna get a good one.
There are many reasons why I’m proud as hell to be at NP day after day and week after week. Today I’m gonna highlight two good reasons that happened this morning, all while we watched the beautiful sun rise and the tribe work their sweaty faces off doing #Frogman1.
Proud moment 1:
Tom Stark. Again. He set the newest, fastest #Frogman1 record time. Again. Only four men have ever held this record at NP Boston, including Stark, and now he’s done it again. Previous best time: 26:05 (Krzysztof Danielewicz, set 5.10.17) Stark’s new record is 25:53. A full 12 seconds faster. It makes us wonder if anyone can keep getting faster, but 2017 has seen some epic back-and-forth between Tom and Krzysztof. Krzysztof held the record for a long time until Tom bested him in April this year. Krzysztof took the title back in May, and now June is Tom’s. July and August could make for an exciting race of Frogman. Legends who’ve held the record before these two are Brogan Graham and Daniel Grady Jackson. Well done to all. Thanks for making us all work harder and get faster.

Proud moment 2:
You can always come back to NP. I realize that especially for anyone who’s been a part of NP for a little bit, or a while, and then gets away from it can convince themselves that they’d be judged if they came back, for having been gone so long. Or for letting fitness get so far away from their focus and priorities. But this morning, at the end of the 6:30 workout, a sweaty dude with a proud smile on his face came up to me and explained that he hadn’t been at NP for 2 years. Life has been hard…lots of reasons and details. But the important thing for him was a decision late last night to get his shoes out, set his alarm, and just show up. I can’t say whether he was afraid of being judged or not, but he didn’t let it get in the way today. And I have to say I was really proud that he didn’t just show up quietly–sneak in and sneak out–but he made a point to find me and say how much it meant that he decided to make it happen today. We, as a community, in the way that we welcome, include, and support each other, make this possible. NP, in the way that it stays focused on keeping us all moving, in a dependable and reliable way, makes this possible.
I’m proud to be a part of this tribe, this city, this movement, and this bigger family. Enjoy this longest day and let’s keep changing the world.
