I was once a newbie.
For anyone that’s not a founding co-leader, this is a reality. Being new is tough. You don’t know what to yell during the bounce. You’re a little slower to find a partner. You need to ask someone to demonstrate what a hoistee is.
And that’s okay.
I was thinking recently about all of the people I’ve met through November Project. I decided to take a little trip down memory lane and look at pictures from my first few workouts.
The contrast between my feelings when I saw these pictures a couple years ago versus now shows just how intimidating it can be to be a newbie… and how rewarding it can be to stick with the discomfort. “Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear.” On the other side of discomfort lies friendship.
Thinking back to the people I met at my first, second, and seventh workouts, these people who were once only first names to me are now friends. To those who keep showing up, they’re roommates, best friends, significant others, and life partners.
So, to you newbies:
What an amazing opportunity you have right at your fingertips. All you have to do is keep showing up and being open to the friends the world will throw at you.
And to you “veterans”:
Be accessible. You never know who you’ll meet and what they’ll mean to you in an oldie or a newbie.
People make life worth it. Keep meeting people. Keep befriending people. Keep loving people. Keep being amazing people.
