Trading Places

Living and loving is a process of trading places.

Being a generous driver is a process of trading places. When you’re driving down Wisconsin Avenue in a rush to get to work, at first, you’re the one speeding along. But if you see an old woman crossing the street, you’ve slowed down so that her commute is shorter. You’ve slowed down as she’s sped up. You’ve traded places. read more

The Need for Speed

Last night, the citizens of the United States of America of the world turned on their TVs, piled their plates with wings, and sat down with beers for a one-day show down (and despite the fact that all of Milwaukee, except for transplants, was a bit bitter about Aaron’s collarbone, we all watched the game). read more

Spicy Moments

During the burnout last week, I felt something I hadn’t felt in a while.

I felt like I was going to vomit.

And it

Felt

Gooooooood

It didn’t feel good because I was on the brink of exhaustion. It didn’t even feel good because my legs were moving faster than they had in a long time. It didn’t feel good because I was close to being in first place. read more

Monday Resolve

It’s over two weeks into the 2018. By now, some of you have given up on your “resolutions”. Some didn’t even commit to any in the first place. But today, January 15, is a new day, and a new opportunity to work on ourselves and the communities in which we live. So, here’s a list of Monday Resolutions we can take on to better ourselves and the world around us. read more

Once a newbie, always a newbie

I was once a newbie.

For anyone that’s not a founding co-leader, this is a reality. Being new is tough. You don’t know what to yell during the bounce. You’re a little slower to find a partner. You need to ask someone to demonstrate what a hoistee is.

And that’s okay.

I was thinking recently about all of the people I’ve met through November Project. I decided to take a little trip down memory lane and look at pictures from my first few workouts. read more

Cycles

Our workouts are cyclic.

Wednesday, Friday. Wednesday, Friday.

5:29, 6:26. 5:29, 6:26.

Good morning, good morning. Y’all good?, awwwww yeah.

So are our bodies.

Left foot, right foot. Left foot, right foot.

Heartbeat saying lub dup, lub dup.

And so is our city.

Waves come in, waves go out.

Wind blows east, bringing yeast scents, wind blows west, bringing lake air. read more

In Thanksgiving

This past Sunday, a Milwaukee tribesman had the brilliant idea to ask each November Project city to come up with a Thanksgiving message, expressing what they are grateful for this holiday season. Amazing.

Coincidentally, this tribesperson had ready access to a network of co-leaders through his gf (i.e. me), and the plan began. read more

Thank you, whatever comes

Wisconsin notes:

  1. Sunrise 6k this Wednesday morning. Show up as usual at 5:29 and 6:26 am, ready to run
  2. If you still have cash to give to our O’Donnell Park staff, please bring it Wednesday
  3. Tergeython is on Thursday. Direct all questions towards Will Bott

We all have a lot to be grateful for. It seems to be more obvious when things aren’t going “well”.

Take, for example, having the stomach flu. Your innards do a lot for you to keep your digestion, electrolyte balance, and hydration in check and steady. But give your stomach one little bug and all seems to be wrong. In reality, it’s your body being *right*, trying to fight whatever is infecting you, but it hurts. It’s the worst to be laid up in bed, throwing up your intestines, when all you want to do is eat food like a normal person. read more

It’s Not Easy

It’s not easy to get up for a November Project workout.

Your bed always seems more inviting just as you’re about to leave it. Just two more minutes, please. You have a million things to do today, and somehow they seem like they’ll get done more quickly if you were a bit more rested. You’re sore from sitting at a desk all day, sore from a track workout the evening before, sore from exhaustion. It’s not easy. read more
