NP Oakland’s First PR Wednesday

There was just a new energy — and a whole bunch of new faces — at the workout this morning. And that was awesome. And it’s not just the name awareness. We’ve been blown away with the energy and support that Oakland and the East Bay have shown in the last few weeks. The word is clearly out. NP_OAK is here.

But after a couple insane weeks of organizing our first workout as an NP tribe, getting all the social media set up, and generally fielding a million calls/messages/questions, it was nice to just get back into the regular rhythm of leading a workout.

Our normal spot at the Lake Merritt Boating Center is, in our humble opinion, perfect for our regular workouts: it’s big, it’s scenic, it’s iconic, it’s a runner’s hotspot, and we can be goofy/loud/badass/whatever the workout calls for.

But on PR Wednesday, we run stairs.

Oakland runners know the Cleveland Cascade well, and we love pounding pavement there once a month. It’s a simple course, with all the NP classics that PR Wednesday should have: vert, burpees, and lots of high fives.

We set a lot of PRs. We recruited some pedestrians. And we had our biggest crew yet (not counting last week when we stole half of NPSF).

Plus, our loyal tribe member Tim Cole showed up to raffle some prizes and a free entry to the Oaktown Half on August 11/12. If you’re interested in running it, use the code NPOAK for $10 off the race entry fee.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Next Wednesday is Global Running Day! Join us for our regular workout at 6:28am at the Lake Merritt Boating Center, then join us that evening with East Bay Beer Runners and the Oaktown Half Marathon for happy hour at Federation Brewing in Oakland.

Equator Coffees & Teas will also be hosting us for breakfast and raffling off prizes after the workout next Wednesday for Global Running Day.

November Project Summit is happening September 14-16 in Wisconsin. NP Summit will take place at the North Face Endurance Challenge Series (TNF ECS) at Kettle Moraine State Park. ECS hosts a marathon relay, a marathon, a 50k, and a 50-mile race on Saturday, and a 5k, a 10k, and a half marathon on Sunday, and kids runs both days. This is a SERIOUSLY amazing event and a chance to meet/race/party with NPers from all around the world. We’ll be following up in the coming weeks with details/logistics for those who want to fly out and race. Get with Alex and Rebecca if you have any questions.
