November Project Status Update

First, let us just say that we’re glad you’re here. The engagement of our global community is what makes our organization great. We know we have not always done a good job acknowledging that, being open to feedback, and course correcting. We hope you’ll continue to #JustShowUp as we realign with our Community Agreements and move forward.

We couldn’t do this without you.
Second, we compiled your call ins, your feedback, and your comments and tried our best to summarize these into three main areas of focus. We continue to welcome call ins, discussion, feedback, comments – feel free to comment on this blog, submit your message in our form (can be done anonymously), or reach out in another way that feels good for you. We hope you will continue to look at November Project with a loving but critical lens so we can continue to Grow Community in many different ways.

What we heard from you: you want more accountability from November Project. You want transparency. You want to know about our financials. You want clear communication. You want to understand our infrastructure and how decisions are made. You want to know who is on the board and what their roles are.

Here’s the plan: Our fiscal year matches the calendar year. It is generally standard procedure for most non-profit organizations to create and share Annual Reports or Impact Reports which include the organization’s reach, financials, accomplishments, and goals for the year ahead. November Project, since becoming a non-profit in 2018, has never done this. Until 2023. We will gather data, to the best of our ability, and put it together to show where we’ve been, where we are, and where we hope to be and assemble this into an Annual Report. It is our goal to release this by the end of July 2023 and if we need more time to do this we will provide an update letting the community know an updated timeframe for publishing.

We also hear from you that you want more consistent communication from November Project Global and updates on what’s going on at “headquarters.” Starting with the Annual Report in July, we will release a quarterly blog post from NP HQ with status updates, opportunities for engagement, and highlights from the previous quarter. Our first post in July will include the Annual Report and a Who’s Who for both November Project staff and board members.

What we heard from you: We want to understand how November Project is measuring success as it relates to its ongoing efforts to understand its origins in white supremacy culture, what tangible actions the organization has taken to both course correct from those origins, provide training and support to its Co-Leaders, and what the organization is doing to create infrastructure for both Co-leaders and community members as it relates to conflict resolution and crucial feedback.

Here’s the plan: The DEI Committee, currently comprised of Board Members and Co-leaders, was tasked with determining the measures of success, establishing our baseline, and working toward providing recommendations/action items on ways to make DEI initiatives part of every facet of the organization. This committee put out a global survey at the end of 2022. The committee is currently in flux with Co-leader and Board Member transition but once new members are set for the year, the committee will revisit survey data, establish how we measure success, establish our baseline, and create goals for the upcoming years. Updates from this committee will be included in the quarterly blog.

What we heard from you: We want to understand how November Project is tangibly and actively supporting and uplifting its Co-leaders and community members all year long, not just during a celebration of respective heritage months.

Here’s the plan: We are trying to keep a beat on who’s doing what so we can celebrate the various accomplishments of our Co-leads, and trust that they do the same in their communities through established recognition like the Positivity Award. We recognize that much of that work to Elevate. Motivate. Support has been done internally and as we re-establish our external voice, look to bring those celebrations and recognitions to the front of our social media platforms, of both Co-leaders and community members across the globe. We look to formalize this process more going forward to be more consistent in these efforts. Recaps of these efforts will also be included in the quarterly blog.
